I've been contemplating putting a 160 in mine w/all this heat, but don't want to be bothered w/the install & then driving to my tuner to edit the fan settings. I only track the car a few times a year anyway & I'm not trying to build the fastest C6 out there.
Has anyone edited the fan settings & kept a stock t-stat? Thinking about just having him have my fans come on sooner & leaving the stock stat in. Thoughts?
My fan comes on Fast whenever it comes on as a result of my dyno tune tuner's setting. I also run a 180 T-stat and the fan is set to come on at 196 coolant temp to prevent any timing pull.

Go with a 180 stat. The sweet point for coolant I've been told is 195 degrees & oil 210 degrees ?
Mine generally hovers at 198-201 at highway speeds. The cooler numbers are seen when the rpms are close to 2000. In traffic with AC on in 95+ temp I may see 103. I have a 180 degree stat and tune. Also car is bumped up a little compression wise.
We drove in a parade today, outside temp 100-105. Sat idling for about 20 minutes, then did stop-and-go in the parade for another 30 min +. A/C on the whole time, of course.
Coolant got to 219, oil stayed around 210, A6 tranny also got to 219.
These cars handle the hot days far better than older Corvettes.
The transmission temps these cars have are really high. Yet very little issues with the A6 transmissions. Is coolant going to the transmission via tubing ?

The A6 (and A4) have the typical cooler- the trans fluid runs through a line up to the radiator, through a radiator side tank, and back to the tranny.
In many circumstances, this is actually a trans Heater. But since redline on the engine coolant is 255 and redline on the trans is 270, it usually keeps the tranny below redline.
People who run their car hard often install a separate cooler, in series (usually after) the radiator tank "cooler".
I know trucks that heavy towing don't hit 200 degrees trans temp pulling big grades. My 1500 pulling 6000 lbs might hit 190 on a hot day big grade. Otherwise its in the 170/180 range. Towing. My vete hits that and more just normal driving. First few times I saw those temps with the vette I was alarmed.
