Default Please Help with Tire Selection

Hi Guys,

The stock Good Year Supercars on my 2010 GS are nearly gone (at the wear bars in the middle of the front two) after only 5000 miles and two autocross events. So I'm obviously not going to get another set of those crapy tires. The plan is to get something a little better and maybe a little wider followed by an alingment to make sure the new ones don't wear prematurely. So here is my question to you GS & Z06 guys & gals that DD your cars and also do some autocross and/or mild track use:

I'm looking for a tire that I can get ~12,000miles (summer DD) & 12-15 autocross events out of. So basically a tire that is a good compromise between sticky and long life. So far the two that peak my interest are the Michelin Pilot Super Sport's and the Nitto Invo's..... which of those is the better tire for my needs? Any other tires I should really consider? Also what about size I know I can fit 275/35/18's or 285/35/18's up front and 325/30/19's, 335/30/19's or even 345/30/19's in the rear on the stock wheels, which size should I go with?

Go with the Invo's.....I replaced the OEM GY's on my '05/Z51 couple of years ago & have been totally pleased. Much better ride....much quieter.....better grip.....and they're much less expensive than the Michelins.

Thanks for the tips guys

I know both the Invo's and the Michelin's will probably get me the 10K+ miles I want out of a set of tires, question is which of the two tires is stickier. As I do plan on autocrossing with the tires.

Also is there any issues with running 285's up front and 335's or 345's out back? Any rubbing? Is it worth it going to a slightly wider tire?

The day I get the new tires put on I'm going for an alingment for sure.

Need to buy the tires this week but still can't figure out if going wider is worth it, or if I should stick to stock width, and also which is stickier Invo's or Super Sports

I went with the Bridgestone RE050A runflats in the stock sizes. Great tires at a great price.

Do you do any autocross or track driving or was this strictly a daily driver/commuter tire?

Default Don't forget about our Korean friends.

I was running Kuhmo's MX on my 03. I found them to be bitey, quiet, and smooth. They were recently retired but the upgrade replacement is the Ecsta SPT. There is also another one above that for summer driving.

I know for a fact they make them in C6 rim size because I almost bought them for the 07 set of rims I just got.

I could really push them while cornering and wish I didn't have to switch. From the MX's with a 220 treadlife I got 7k miles out of them (They were less than half tread life when I got my vette used) and probably could have pushed another 1-2k of sporty driving. Check them out.

Aesthetically I also like the sidewall and tread design of both MX and SPT.

RIP my MX's

Just regular driving but I have run 160+ at Talladega on them(and they gripped better then the OE Supercars) and pretty hard at the Tail of the Dragon. If I did anything on the track, I would get a dedicated set of wheels/tires just for that purpose.

I just installed Michelins Super Sport and will NEVER go back to the Goodyear OE tires. Ride is smoother, quieter, handling is better and provides better traction then the goodyears. I went with 275 35 18 for the fronts and 345 30 19 for the rears. Could not be happier with the performance!!! I highly recommend the Super Sport! I also hear positive things about the Nitto Invos also but I chose the Super Sport due to Nittos not being carried by Tire Rack.

Also I recommend getting a 4 wheel alignment depending on your what specification for the use of your car.

OP- I know you're pretty focused on tire width, but don't lose sight of the tire's overall diameter and the front to back relationship. If you stray too far from stock you can upset AH.

I have 275/35/18's and 345/30/19's. I was running Michelin PS ZP's (according to Tire Rack the only run-flat available in 345/30/19) but they are usually out of stock/back-ordered so I've switched to Nitto Invos.

Lighter, quieter, sticky and much cheaper. Got them at Discount Tire with a warranty and they do a good job of getting them on my car with no issues.

An alignment is a good idea too. I had the shop use the PFADT street specs (actually a little toward the track side of the settings) and had the car corner-balanced.

I just put on the Super Sports in stock sizes and could not be happier. Considered the bigger sizes but on some Vettes it just did not look right so I took the safe bet.

The tires are amazing by the way!

Running an Invo 275/345 on a 19/20 set-up on my C6 and am very pleased so far. Don't track the car, but do push it on our winding mtn roads and they are very grippy (is that a word?), smooth, and quiet. You can definately feel the extra rubber on the road - the 345's are healthy tires and it's nice to be able to put the power down and have some traction.

Read alot of good stuff about the SS's as well - don't think you can go wrong with either tire, although the Invo's will leave +/- an extra grand in your bank acct. Neither are ZP's.
