Am I right in thinking that my 2011 C6 shares the same steering wheel as the Impala, etc. WTF??

You are probably right. I purchased a new Cobalt SS steering wheel for my HHR and I can not tell a whole lot of difference between it and the steering wheel on my 11 Corvette.

And a no doubt a bunch of other parts as well, but not sure I see the problem...that's how they keep the car affordable. They could make custom everything for it, with a price tag to match.
