My go pro stays in my car. Its the best insurance you could have. The idiots around here will pull out right in front of you, so If I ever get into an accident. Its on video.
Another suggestion - your smartphone's camera. I have had great success using my iPhone 4 and a windshield suction mount for recording video. Take along your laptop and you can download the videos afterwards to free up memory for more videos. Also easy to hook up the phone to car power so no battery worries.

I've always wondered about this, but how can you have an always on/always recording solution? Have to set it up every time you go anywhere? then stop every 30/60 minutes to erase the thing and start it over?

I have a 32GB Micro SD Memory card in mine, so it last longer than any trips I've made. I also have a battery back pack that make it last at least 4 or 5 hrs. You can also buy a battery charger if you need it to last longer. I just start it when I go somewhere and stop it when i'm done. I leave it running if I park it to go to the gym or eat, that way I know if some a**hole parked to close and or bumps into the front bumper. Then the gloves come off.

When you leave it on and exit the vehicle, do you just pick a direction and hope you faced it the right way in case something happens?

it is mounted on the inside of the windshield and covers the whole front end , when I have the clear top on I can mount it to the bottom side of the top also

Oh I was thinking more along the lines of people bashing their doors into the car in the parking lot.
My wife's 2012 Mazda now has 3 door dings that she has got while parked in her parking lot at work out among the other employees. I want to catch the douche in the act.
I have been googling cameras since you brought it up and looks like some have wide angle 140-170 degrees that are motion activated. If you mount it back from the windshield, you could capture both doors and the front.
