My 2012 GS coupe (manual) has the check enging light on. Oil preasure is good, oil level is good, temp is good, voltage is good. The car seems to run normally. I am running the same gas (91) from the same station as I always do. I checked the gas cap and topped off the tank. Are there any other quick things to check out prior to taking it to the dealer?
Anytime I have one of those come on, in my dodge, I swing into Discount Auto and pull the codes. At least then, I know what's going on before spending a day in the shop. Of course, you are under warranty, so a trip to the dealer's not a totally bad thing, hopefully...
other than the gas cap, i haven't a clue. i have a handheld predator tuner I can plug into mine and read/erase codes. if yours is stock, get it into the dealership.

While driving the car press the Onstar button. They can run a diagnosis and give the code.
When I got the light I had a half tank of gas so I did not think it could be the gas cap. We had got about 75 miles from home when the light came on. I stopped for gas and filled the tank like I always do. Started driving and the light was still on. We took the car back home. It sat for maybe 10 minutes while I read the manual. I got back in it to take it to the dealer and the light was gone. We decided to drive up to Sedona for dinner which is also about 75 miles away. It never came back on.
The manual says you need to drive it for a while after the gas cap was left off/not put on right. So I guess that was it.

Thanks for your help.
hope it was the gas cap, probably was given that the light went away without resetting, there are many causes for the light for e.g. O2 sensors, plugs, etc.
And remember that after putting the gas cap on correctly, the light will not go away immediately, it takes a few run cycles...this is the case with any CEL notification.

Roger on that. My 06Z would set a CEL about once a year due to the gas cap. From past experience, it will take 12 engine restarts before the CEL turns off after the gas cap has been removed and re-installed. My gas cap CEL would usually occur soon after a fill up. Since it was so infrequent, I never installed a new fill cap.
