It's to deflect rocks, not water..

Possible issues with brake cooling, aero lift, and aero drag. Since they are a GM product, I wouldn't expect any major problems. But still...

Talk about struggling to find a problem.

:agree: Absolutely!!! I ordered them as soon as I bought my 2008, and put them on as soon as they arrived. They do protect your paint, and they are barely noticeable.

Torch Red with GCA splash guards. To me they give the wheel wells a more finished look.

at first I wasn't sure if I'd like the way they would look.
So stuck them on temporarily and after taking them off, the car looked better with them on IMO
Glad I got them

Do you have to drill holes to install the GM ones? On the rear?

Yes, in the rear only, and the holes are in the wheel well liner not the body panel itself. An easy install, and practical for a 'base' model.

I put them on my 2012 CE coupe and to me they help protect my car from rocks and water. I also love how they add a little swoosh to the wheel well.

They are absolutely necessary. Your rocker panels will be sandblasted behind the front wheels in no time if you don't protect them.

As mentioned, our car is doing just fine without them at 48,000 miles. (post #17)
One might say that those who buy them have a solution in search of a problem.

Your car, your money, your choice.

EDITED TO ADD:
Even though I don't think they are necessary for protection, I do think they give the wheel wells a more "finished" look, and may put them on just for that reason. Decisions, decisions...

I like mine. They certainly cut down the amount of road grime that ends up on the qtr panels. Ive got the GM ones. Look good, dont stick out too far, easy install. Everyone that has them, like em

I just put a set of OEM splash guards on today. They fit perfectly, and I think they look OK.
