Shifter won't come out of park**READ THIS**
OK. So, I have been having the problem of my shifter not coming out of park the past few months. It only happens ocassionally. Usually when the engine is cold. It happened twice yesterday. I took it to the dealer today and shut the engine off while I waited for the service department to open. When they opened, I started the car to pull it in and the car would not come out of park. I had to shut the engine off- hit accessory etc., etc. It came out of park so I pulled it into the garage. They drove it back to the Corvette Specialist and I watched him mess with it for 20 minutes trying to get it to stick in park- and of course it didn't happen. I also had him check the Crankshaft pulley for wobble and they said it was OK.........(paragraph)...... They pulled it back outside and said they would let it set for a while and see if they could get it to act up after it cooled down, because I told them that was when it usually acted up. I went out with the guy about an hour later and tried to get it to stick which it did twice with him standing there, watching. Then he got into the car and fiddled with it and it stuck on him a couple of times. He drove it back inside to the Corvette specialist and they talked for a few minutes and he pulled it back out front.......(paragraph) Here is what he told me- when it stuck on him, he had pushed the button on the shifter down BEFORE he pressed on the brake pedal. He said that GM had put out a service bulletin saying that in order to get the car out of PARK, you have to push the brake pedal down BEFORE you press the shifter button to pull the shifter out of PARK. It has to be done in that sequence or it can stick in PARK. (It is not like when you start the car, that you can hit the start button and then press down on the brake afterwards and start the car). Hitting them at the same time can cause a problem. To get it out of PARK, you must hit the brake pedal first. OK. So, I thought maybe I was doing it wrong. I will keep an eye on it and make sure I do it the way they said from now on. Hit the brake pedal first and then press the shifter button to get it out of PARK. You guys who are having problems with yours sticking, try this, keep an eye on yours, see what happens and let us know.

It happens
I had this problem with my 05... eventually had to have the actuator and the shifter mechanism replaced at a dealer..
You're looking at about $700..

See, another reason autos are better than sticks!
I consider this an added theft deterrent device.
Only I know the secret touch to get my car out of park.
Mine's been acting up as well for the last two weeks.
After reading that other thread on the subject, I've learned the secret touch that coaxes it out.
I'm thinking the push it forward before pulling it back has been working.
and all you manual guys better take note...
in the year 2525, if man is still alive,
WE'll ALL BE DRIVING DCT SPORTS CARS!
Move on now, nothing more to see here.
Sorry, didn't want to hijack the thread.

Happened with our `05 at about 28k miles - - was intermitant and if I fiddled with it long enough, it would work.
Finally took it to the dealership and they replaced the shifter under waranty - not an uncommon issue. But any success with pushing the button first, last, etc really has no impact.
Stealer-dealer here I come . . .Good luck-

Well, I found out it isn't my fault. I went to the Woodward Dream Cruise and in the morning when I came out to drive my car, it did the same thing as always. It stuck in park on the second time that I tried to use it. We had cones that we used in the hotel lot to reserve our places and when I got out to replaced the cones, it would stick in park. I pressed on the brake pedal BEFORE I tried to put it in reverse and it stuck about a dozen times. So, I now know it IS sticking. I did learn that once the cabin warmed up for only a few seconds, it went right into gear and never messed up again all day. So, if I have to get out of a car to put the door down or do something else, I will just have to put it in neutral and set the parking brake. So, the problem is: by the time I get it to the dealer, the cabin is warm and it isn't going to mess up. I noticed too, that when it was cold, if I tapped lightly on the side of the shifter, I can hear it click and it starts working. So, when I get a chance, I'll let the dealer keep it overnight and have it mess up when the car is cold. But at least now I know what to do to keep it from sticking.

I’ve tried everything- sometimes I have to shut down , turn car off, open the door and start all over. I got stuck in a bank line today. It freaked me out I couldn’t shift into gear!

Sometimes I can get it out of park and sometimes not. Whether it’s cold or warm engine. I got stuck in a bank line/ drive up had to shut it down open the door unlock seatbelt and start all over again. Thankfully it shifted. The people behind me probably wanted to kill me. It was awful and scary. I’m a girl owner not a mechanic, should I just take it to a dealer and get something fixed? It’s an 08 base with 19, k miles on it.
thanks!
