I just removed and installed a new head unit display, and I did remove the console completely. If you unhook only the 4 way flasher and the heated seat connectors, you could move the console back out of the way to remove the HVAC head unit. IMO, it is better to remove completely, as moving the console back or to the side, gives you lot's of opportunity to scatch things you don't want to.

I don't know of any passenger air bag switch related to the removal of the center console. The passenger air bag, as far as I know, is activated by a certain weight sitting in the seat. It shows on or off on the rear view mirror.

As far as I know, the only switches on the console are: " traction control and active handling" (on the drivers side) and the F55 ride control switch, found on the tombstone of the center console.
The other items on the console that have to be disconnected are the (2) 12VDC power outlets.

Well..... that switch that you talk about...I never knew that key switch was there on the lower part on the drivers side. It's only the top part of the console that comes off. I guess owning a c6, one may find out something new from time to time.

The key slot you're referring to isn't for the passenger airbag. It's to lock/unlock the center console lid.

This is the first i have heard of the C6 climate control going blank. I know it was a common problem with the C5s. With help from the people of this great forum, there was a simple fix with a $10 solder pen from RADIO SHACK and a little patience. I did both my C5s and they worked great for years. As for the C6, i don't know. But keep looking some one out there will be ready to help.
