DRL’s
I know a lot of people complain about the amber DRL’S. I like them to me it’s the trade mark of the C6 seeing those amber lights. What I don’t like is the frequency they go out. My driver side goes out at least once a month. First it was blowing out. Fixed that but broke a tab in the socket. Now the bulb is working itself loose in the socket. The thing about this is I see this problem on Tahoe’s, pickup trucks both GM and Chevrolet. Do executives from GM and Chevrolet read these forums? This is a great way to fix all the small problems to provide a better product. The C7 should be one of the best built Vette ever. Just my 2 cents.
I too think the DRL's are a good idea, you can turn them off after starting if you don't like them.
IIRC, there have been some changes since 2005. Our 2006 didn't have any troubles with them except for hitting another car that pulled out in front of me, and our 2009 has 48k miles with no problem. But I don't know what is different from 2005.

I wonder is something else is going on with your Vette. In just under 6 years, I have only had to replace the driver's side DRL once. I couldn't get my hand in there and wound up having the dealer change it.
I agree about seeing a lot of Chevy/GMC trucks and SUV's with a burned out DRL.

I think that there is definitely something going on with your car though. My DRL's have never gone out.
I am going to replace the bulb socket not sure if I have to replace the whole wire harness. When it first went out there the socket was slightly burnt inside. I cleaned it out and that is when a small piece fell out.
I am a firm believer in DRLs. I almost pulled out in front of a black C6 one day. Bright sunny day but he was in shadow. I didn't see the car but I saw the DRLs.
I have no problem with having DRL's, I just hate the amber. I went with 6000K LED's in all white(no switchbacks) and then installed 6000K HID bulbs in the low beams so they matched the DRL's in color.
The DRLs are essential in my book. I like that they give an indication of width, as well as road presence to other motorists. Not to mention combo-ing them with the fogs gives pretty good lighting for sunset or low light conditions.

LED's run alot cooler and drain less energy than regular bulbs.
I am on the fence about running them. I am 50-50 about running them yet I do not want any problems so I usually turn them off.
I am glad that there is the option of turning them off at startup especially if you go from a dark parked garage to outside daylight which means all of your lights would go off and on more frequently wearing them out faster.
I have a related concern. Wish I could disable the DRLs from the DIC (like many other cars, like BMWs), but at least I can turn them off after starting the car. My concern is every time I start the car in my garage, the damn headlights come on, and am going to end up frying a ballast and/or bulb MUCH sooner, no? Am I wrong to assume that? Thx.

This is exactly what I was addressing. I am in same situation so from inside my dark garage just before/during I push ignition button I switch rotary switch so none of those lights come on.
