I just came home from Pep Boys to have a spare key cut from my FOB. The guy at Pep Boys said they can't cut that key because the key has a computer chip in it and it requires the dealer to make one. Is that correct? He said the little silver piece at the end of the key is where the chip is. He said a cut key would only open the trunk but not start the engine with it in the glove compartment.

Does your key fit inside the FOB? If it does the key only opens the trunk by turning the mechanical lock in the rear. It doesn't have a chip on it. The FOB will start the car without the key in it. This is what mine looks like:
Hes an idiot, the key only opens the rear hatch from above the license plate
The key has nothing to do with starting the car or the glove box. The fob is what goes in the slot in the glove box if your battery dies.
Get the key cut at home depot. There are some threads on the key type and number on here. David
If you are looking for a spare key to keep in your wallet, then find a Saturn B-106 key blank(it doesn't have the thick plastic handle) and have them cut it using the key in your FOB. I found mine at a locksmith shop and cut, cost me $3.20.

Yep, that is what I did at a locksmith shop. I have found that a locksmith cuts even routine keys in a way that makes them work more easily than one cut at a hardware store.
