I was talking with some of my buddies last week and I was telling them about the cost of my new Goodyear Supercar tires I had put on the front of my car @ just under a grand for the two front ones. One of the guys told me that he could have gotten a better deal for me on some General Tires for around $100.00 apiece. At first I thought he was kidding but he was really serious. I couldn't get him to believe that they probably wouldn't work that well. He just kept insisting that they would work as well as any expensive tire that go on it. I got a big kick outta THAT conversation...........
There are plenty of better tires than the runcraps . Runflats did get about 25k on my 05 though. I had Kumho's on my 05 and have Invo's on my 10 GS. They aren't $100, but they are far cheaper. I think all 4 Invo's were less than 1k installed. They aren't runflats, but the road noise, grip, and ride is so much better. They have also got 10k on them and still have about half or better tread. They have already almost outlasted the goodyears that made it 13k. It's a personal preference when it comes to tires, but there are a whole lot of options on a normal coupe now. GS is still kind of limited. What kind of mileage did you get out of your old tires?

yeah they will work, that doesnt mean theyll work well...
reminds me of how some people think synthetic oil is a scam
I had a set of Generals, UHP I think, on my old car. I absolutely loved them. Very quiet, great in the rain, and got close to 60k miles on em. Yea, they were on a passenger car, so not sure how they would hold up on your vette

Firestone Firehawks cost me about $1,200 for all 4 and handle better than the SC tires. I can pull a fraction more Gs with them than the best the SCs ever pulled. I got around 12K out of the SCs and have 28K so far on the Firehawks with plenty of tread to go. I expect to get around 40K out of them. Go ahead and laugh. Then do a search.
But the correct answer to your buddy is to give him the tire size and have him look it up. Let him convince himself when he finds General doesn't make tires in the needed size. And if he tries to say some other size will do just as well, point out that the computer controlled active handling will make the car undrivable if you change more than a little from the factory tire diameter ratios programmed into the computer. Again, do a search.
