I want to replace the silver pieces on the steering wheel that surround the radio and blue tooth buttons with ones that match the center console. I have a 2011 and I would like an exact match as much as possible. Does anyone know who sells them and how hard it is to change them out?
I would try DSVettes. I believe you have to send them yours though.
They are easy to take out. You have to take out the airbag. Use an awl
on the small holes on either side of the wheel, press inward till you feel
the spring go in and gently pull outwards on the airbag. Hold out on it
while you do the other side and it pops right out. There are screws behind
the airbag that hold the silver pieces in. Unhook the battery first though.
Never have the power connected when doing airbag work on a vehicle.....
I put a 2012 steering wheel in my 08, took 5 minutes.
I paid $200 for the new wheel from PartsTaxi and sold my 08 wheel on
eBay for $110, so it only cost me $90 for a new 2012 wheel. Much better
than the old 08 style.
Easy way to do this is with TKO's covers. Their hydrocarbon matches original GM pattern. They are a thin flexable plastic with a small lip all the way around. When installed they cover all the orignal grey. Once on you can not tell they are covers at all. I have had mine for 2 years and they look great.
Give Ed a call and tell him to send you a set asap. I got mine in 4 days.
Have had TKO hydrocarbon parts for 4 yrs and they still look new. Great quality for sure.
I went with their gunmetal grey since I had nothing to match on my 07. Old pic before the spoke covers and the center console base.
Randy,
Got mine from Apsis and they are a dead on match. I ordered some overlay pieces prior to that, from a non-forum vendor, and they were a double whammy of poor quality and mismatch to the CF pattern. I also got the door button bezels, the gear shift cap, and the E-brake button in HC from Apsis. All were a perfect match to my 2010 interior CF. Jersey's prices are double in most cases but well worth it, in my opinion, for items that are staring you in the face while you drive. I would not go with the overlay for any of the pieces as it adds a layer of material and ruins the smooth lines.

TKO overlays are very thin and do not make it look thicker.
Be careful to match the carbon fiber pattern if you are going that direction. There are several Forum vendors that have available CF parts for almost every square inch of the interior. Having installed many CF pieces on my car and others it is not difficult to install these parts. there are instructions provided by the vendors and posts here on the Forum for installation. I subscribe the the rule "Do it right the first time". Think about what you want to do, search the posts here for other members experience and then decide on what you want to do. One thing that I have found is, don't get in a hurry, mod remorse can be a very expensive thing.
I have used RPI and DSV for my interior mods on the car. Both are great vendors with top quality products.
Did my interior with pieces from Greg at Auto Dynamics West. Great Prices Great Service. Give him a call.
I just had them redo my entire interior to match my 2010 4LT pattern console, as another forum vendor had a ridiculous match in my case, thus the need to start from scratch again. Since the spokes are easy to remove dont do overlays, get it done right.
FYI this is an easy install. I had mine color matched to the cars paint. Took me maybe 5 minutes. There is a small hole behind the airbag near the steering column. Insert a small allen wrench and push. There may be another hole on the other side as well. This will release the entire center of the steering wheel including the airbag. You will then see the 2 Torx screws I believe. Just unscrew them and the inserts are out. once swapped out, the airbag just clips right back into place.
Randy, tko did mine. They are overlays. IMO overlays are not the best way to go but until I have the $$ to replace the wheel & the spokes done the other way then the overlays will have to do. I didnt want to pull the airbag apart so I did the next best thing. Ed at tko is alot of help. Contact him & he can tell you if he can match it. Good luck & post some pics when you get it done.
I have the carbon ashtray and A/C controls from Performance corvette on my 2011 GS. The pattern is close, but not an exact match. Also, their customer service was terrible
