Scott,
Many car radios have a theft-deterrent feature. If the radio loses power, it locks, so a thief cannot use it in another car. The radio will lose power if your car battery dies, the battery is replaced or a mechanic disconnects the battery to service your vehicle. The Theftlock feature in the 2006 Chevy Corvette is designed to automatically learn a portion of the vehicle identification number (VIN). However, if the radio displays "Locked," you will need to take the Corvette to a GM dealership to have the radio theft-deterrent system reset. You cannot reset the system yourself using a security code as you could on older models.

The VIN is stored in non volitile memory and will not be cleared when you lose battery power.

You are right John, but my reply was generic about theft deterrent radios in general. I believe the problem with Scott's radio is that he replaced his broken one with this one recently and it worked until he started the car. This new radio needs to be reprogrammed to the cars VIN by a dealer. At least thats my opinion.

This is not a Honda, but Honda gives me a "code" that I have to key into the radio before it will work again, I don't remember the exact sequence, but maybe with a battery disconnect, I think I need a code; otherwise, just jump the battery. Something like this. Some people to keep from losing power to the "whole" electrical system will plug a 9V DC battery into the cigarette lighter for a temporary battery before removing the permanent battery and replacing.

OP has a "stolen" radio. Only the dealer can verify that it isn't stolen and program the car's BCM to that effect.

Update on the locked radio.
I know the op, and he had a broken cd changer in his o6 vert and another forum member sent him a radio for an 06 that he replaced shortly after buying his car. (very nice gesture) OP replaced broken radio with the working one himself and it worked in accessory mode but when he started the car it was locked and that was the problem. He took the car to a local dealer this week and for $68.00 they programmed it to work with his car. All is well.
According to the nice person on this forum who sent Scott a perfect 6cd Bose radio for just shipping charges "I Think". They all should be tossed out the window. Changing his Radio was one of the first things he did. Being tone deaf has it advantages , I love my Bose radio.
