Default First Corvette

Hi, I am shopping for my first Vette. I am looking at a C6, automatic, coupe, paddle shift.

What suggestions for research before purchase regarding options, trim package, etc?

Get a '08 minimum.
You can always add the HUD.
GS started in '10.

You will LOVE IT!

It may be difficult for others to know exactly what you are asking. Are you asking for a good source of information regarding the options available on past C6 Corvettes or are you asking for any and all recommendations?

Read the C6 FAQ pinned to the top of the forum. That will familiarize you with the year-to-year differences, the recalls, and the various options available in each year and model.

If we knew your budget we might be more specific, but any choice you make will be a blast.

You may want to read "Corvette the great American sports car" and pick up the Corvette Black Book. They provide information on a year by year basis. This is a good start. In general buy the newest corvette in the best possible condition with the options you want that is in your price range. Condition is key. Paint, trim, or mechanical issues tend to cost alot more than you would think to fix.

The other factor is your budget, that will help allow you to target a certain model year vicinity. Once you have narrowed it down you certainly won't have a problem finding a car, there are plenty of fine vehicles for sale here on this forum as well as through other ads!

If you are just going to drive the car I wouldnt bat an eye at any car from 06+. The LS2 and LS3 both respond well to mods, the head/intake on the LS3 are quite an improvement over the LS2 but both can be made in to all out beasts.

Dont be afraid of one that was driven either and has some miles on it.

Default c6 shopping list

Great suggestions! My budget is the mid 20K range. I would love a coupe with paddle shift/auto, from what I have read and heard, the "magnetic" suspension is a must-have. Where best to look for a car like that?

Have you had a chance to check GM Certified? You can search for vehicles in your area with your specific options and budget in mind. Let me or Evan know if you have any other questions. Thank you.

Ignore this. You'll see a lot of the never buy an LS2 bs. If you have to have an LS3 then of course 2008+, but there is absolutely zero wrong with buying an LS2.

LS3 starts with a whopping 30 more HP. Wow!

You'll need to invest some time reviewing all the info available about option packages and year-to-year changes to understand what you want and what its worth, what to look for proper maintenance. there are no quick answers here that can give you broad knowledge.

For starters, at $25K the newest vette you can likely get is a higher-mileage 2008 with base package 1LT and minimal options. 2008 is the 1st year of LS3, along with some other refinements. Or you can likely get an average-or-lower mileage nicely optioned `06. An `07 will fall in the middle, average milage lower-optioned car, that idea.

The auto trans got better each year, '06 is first year for paddles & six gears, so '05 is not an option for you. Vette prices vary by region, in some areas you will not find much if anything decent in your price range (you're on the low end, price-wise), so shop around and widen your search area if you can. Do you home work and get yourself a vette

I purchased my 2006 coupe (LS2), 3LT, A6 paddle shift last year. It had 58,000 mi on the clock for $27,900...

They are out there...
