Was I wrong?
So he comes by and checks them out and decides to take them. Hands me the cash & loads them up & off he went. That was Wednesday.
Today I got a call from him saying they are not GM wheels. News to me. Maybe they were maybe they were not. They were on the car when I bought it & I never bothered to look one way or the other.
Then he goes on to say they are Centerline wheels and can be bought new for $995. Ok, that might be so. I have no idea, but I know that's not for wheels, tires & TPMS mounted & balanced.
Anyway, then he starts saying they sell used for $600 and he is going to give his buddy back $200 out of what he paid me and asked me to give $100 refund. I offered to split that and give him $50 as a good faith gesture. He declined saying that it's not worth coming out to me to get $50.
On one hand I understand the situation, but on the other it was his job to inspect the wheels before purchase.
So am I wrong here and just an ahole or what? I know I didn't have to offer anything, but I'm not out to get anyone.

EDIT: I offered to mail the $50 & he said "Thanks, but I straightened it out."
So it seems that now he wants no money. Works for me, but WTF?!

If not, then I guess it's really up to you how much you want to work with him.
He should have double checked, but if he was buying for his buddy, he may not have been the knowledgeable one of the two.

If not, and he was buying them for a friend and he did not check to verify that they were in fact GM wheels then it falls back on him as well as his friend. His friend should have made sure that he knew the difference in true GM wheels and aftermarket wheels.

And as stated above, did you state "GM Wheels" or just "take-offs from a Corvette"?
But it really sounds like 2 parties of a three party transaction really didn't know what they had.
If they were advertised as GM yeah he has an argument, but still should check them out.
If he knows where you live it might be a good idea to just suck it up and make him happy.
