My TPMS has started acting up on RT Rear tire. One minute the DIC says the tire is flat then it says the tire pressure is 50psi. Then it may be ok for a couple miles. Then it repeats.
Is there something I can check?
Is the TPMS covered under warranty?
Should I take it to the Chevy dealer or to my trusted Corvette guy? I hate the thought of taking it to a dealer. Are there any good Chevy dealers in the north Houston area that won't break something if I take it there for a warranty repair?
I had new tires put on a couple hundred miles ago. I didn't have the TPMS's replaced. I don't know if this would have anything to do with it. I have ~19k miles on the car.
Sometimes, getting the car "re-trained" to recognize the sensors, will fix this kind of problem. Many tire stores (Discount Tires) and a few dealerships, will do it free. That's the first thing to try.
Sometimes, the problem is in the car itself and can be rather expensive if you are not under warranty. That's the last thing to try.
Usually, the problem is a dying sensor. They are supposed to be good for about 10 years, but some check out sooner. A good tire shop can remove the wheel from the car and then break the bead enough to replace the sensor without actually dismounting/rebalancing the tire from the wheel.
Different years of C6 use different sensors. There are also some aftermarket sensors, some work fine and others not so good. Our member BEZ06 can tell you which ones are best. Forum dealers will sell you the factory ones at a good price, but you probably can't return them (electrical parts) if not needed.
I had the same problem with my 08 Z06 recently while on a road trip to the Nascar Pennsylvania 400.
I checked this valuable forum while on the trip and found that it was caused by the charger for a camera that I installed on the windshield for the trip (do a search). It also affected the key fob and I thought that I was locked out, but got it open...then the car did not detect the fob.
I removed the charger from the console charger and Voila! no more problems.
Also - the sensors have batteries and they can get weak.
The charger thing reminded me I sometimes leave my Garmin plugged in so I quick checked it and that wasn't the problem (even if it may have been a possiblity of causing some sort of interference)
Since it's under warranty I guess I'll take it to a dealer and let them check it out. Now, deciding which one is the dilemma.
Thanks, for the replies.

I have gone through 6 sensors in 4 years both the stock wheels and my track wheels..
when they start to fail for me i get flat tire or zero pressure warnings...
my 2 cents
I took my car to Frank's Corvette's and he replaced the TPMS sensor in the RR tire. I called him the day before and took it in the next morning. I was in and out in about 30 minutes. I'm glad I didn't have to go the a Chevy Dealer. I'm sure there must be good one's out there but I'd much rather go to a "real" Vette specialist.
