In my search of 2008 red vert auto, i've learned a few things;
1. there are no used corvettes at any of the jacksonville chevy dealers. there is one 2010 used at the porche lot for $79,900. the new ones on hand are not red verts. craigslist are scams...
2. a brand new camaro vert, rs pkg and auto has a 7.85 cu ft trunk with the top down. a mustang gt 5.0 vert with top down has 13.2 cuft trunk.
the vette has 11cuft (i think)
New vettes are priced out of my league, period! $40k for a camaro or a mustang brand new for $40 k for a 2007 model vette vert.
i'm guessing it will take a couple years to find what i'm looking for. i'm in no hurry now as this is to be a retirement gift to myself--2 years out. my point is...used vettes are not easy to come by! i've read most of the 4 sales on this forum and most are better prices than cartrader, ebay or dealers lots. a southeast region search only showed a couple red verts but not what i'm looking for. buta i don't think it's fair to go drive a new dealers car when i have no intentions of buying it. but i do not want to fly to minnesota in jan to buy a vette sight unseen if i've not even driven one like it. i see now why many first time buyers state that they've lurked a long time. too bad i won't settle for gray. they're for sale everywhere! my wifes car is gray and my honda fit is gray. they stay clean and look good dirty. wife /i both agree the vette must be red with black top.
keep an eye on carmax. bought my first vette from them 8 years ago (had it shipped to Jax from one of their other locations, and you don't pay that cost if you end up buying it).
I have an absolutely flawless 2007 Victory Red convertible I am contemplating selling for $40k. It has 3LT package plus navigation, 12k miles, nav, chrome wheels. It has been garaged since new and stored winters. I bought it new... sticker was $65k. PM me if you're interested.
Expand your search. I live in the Tampa Bay area and I just did a search for 2008 Corvette's within 500 miles and I found 6 2008 Red convertibles. If you truly want one that is what you have to do if you lock yourself in a specific year and color.
If this is a retirement gift and you are not retiring for two years, why are you looking now?

I would agree with Carmax as well. I bought mine from them back in 08. You can let them know exactly what you want and price and if they get one you will be notified.
I searched heavily in JAX for a nice vette. No stock, No negotiations. If you're looking for a local find, you'd be much better off looking at Stingray Chevrolet in Orlando (more or less). They have alot of inventory and they're forum sponsor I believe. Me, I ordered from Tommy Jr. Good luck on your search.
