My thinking is not to work the motor so that it lasts longer, so I just drop the hatch from just high enough that it closes but doesn't slam, or about 1'-2' above, which what the sales guy at Boardwalk showed me.

the motor still works weather you slam it or let it work on its own..
Dont listen to Tim he slams everything he so tall..
Slam it shut by grabbing the top latch and pulling it and the hatch down in one motion hard enough for the latch to catch. Been doing that for 8 years. Will miss 1 time out of 100 and have to press it down.
Don't have the wear on the paint on the hatch .
I do the same thing. Dont want any fingerprints when i close the hatch. If something messes up in a few years i guess ill take care of it then.
My ex would give me the "evil eye" if I slammed the rear hatch on our '07. She isn't call my ex for no reason...When I bought my '08 I watched the CD that came with the car and on it the rear hatch was being slammed on the CD. I guess that is the factory way!! I let mine fall and it catches most every time. Long sleeve shirt and the elbow closes it when it doesn't close the other way.

Just like it says... I bring it down softly until it's resting on the latch, then I press down and let the electronics pull it down shut. Then I saw others just slam it shut.
How do you do it and why?
Makes a difference whether you have a trunk lid (convertible) or a hatch (coupe).
I thought the convertible did not have a power assist, but the coupe does. Sounds like you have a convertible AND a trunk lid power assist?

I miss the logo on the trunk that the C5 had. You could press down the trunk lid without leaving fingerprints. The C6 has the logo on the bumper instead. Not as easy to avoid the smudges.
Did the museum delivery on our 2013 Vert.
Ron said to close it, then press down on the lid w/your elbow. Just enough force to lock the lid.

Yeah it's is. Just push down on the glass not the painted deck. Why does nobody do that?? Works perfect.

I use my hand ................... tried my teeth but twisted my neck ..........
Pull down actual latch, get it going real good then let go - SLAM! In the rare case it doesn't go all the way down I push with my thumb on the rubber between the glass and fiberglass panel until the automatic closer pulls it on down - no smudge on my black car's paint or the glass....
