Default Filter Replacement

Hi All,
Haven't posted in a while.
How often do you folks change your cabin air filter and engine air filter? I put on 5K miles per year and change the oil and oil filter every 3K.
Also, what brand filters do you use? I have used Delco and TYC in the past. TYC is less expensive and it seems to be the same as far as I can tell.
Thanks in advance.

How often? Depends how much you use the HVAC system.

For low miles, I'm guessing you'd want to change it every couple years or so.

They're cheap enough... change 'em as often as you like. About $12 at Advance Auto for Puralator p/n C25623C. The "C" means the filter has carbon.

But IMO any brand will do fine. Just be sure it has carbon.

Every time I change my oil. My car is a daily driver and exposed to all kinds of pollutants when I'm driving. We're not talking a $100 filter .................

Change my cabin air filter every spring when driving season starts. Amazing how much stuff ends up in the pleats. This season has been exceptionally bad for me in my state as we have had many, many wild land fires which has resulted in me driving in lots of heavy smoke conditions when I travel in the car.

As for the engine air filter I clean it once or twice a season to remove the larger chunks of crud that try to enter the engine. Mostly hay and straw bits as I drive a lot in farming and wheat country so the roads are sometimes littered with dead grasses from the farmers moving their harvests on the roads I travel on at times.

Basically I'd say how often you change them depends on your average driving conditions where you drive a majority of the time and how many miles you put on your car per year.

I also have found it a good idea to inspect the front of the cars radiator at least once per summer since these cars tend to pick up road debris fairly easily. I've found an assortment of junk, plastic bag, paper towel etc plastered to my cars radiator.

During hibernation, I change the cabin filter, the Vararam filter is cleaned and re-oiled, and the oil and filter changed just before taking it out in spring.

Just changed the cabin filter after 6 years use. Oil filter goes in with every oil change (usually once a year). K&N Air Intake filter gets cleaned and oiled when needed, which so far has been zero since installed about 15K miles ago.

My C6 is almost eight years old and I've changed the cabin filter once and it didn't need it then. I drive 3,000 miles a year and live near the beach. The oil and filter gets changed once a year.

I'm assuming, from your user name, that you have a 07. The intake air filter element should be changed out at around 15,000 to 20,000 miles unless you live on a dirt road. Same for the cabin air filter.

For the 08, and later Vettes, the Donaldson air filter elements are good for 45,000 miles but the cabin filter should still be changed at around 15-20,000 miles.

I usually change the cabin air filter once per year, which is 15k-20k miles. By then, it needs it.

I've been using the GM charcoal version, price was reduced a year or two ago.

Same here once for cabin filter. Checked it and it looks clean.

Still on original air filter at 46,000+ miles. Very difficult but how do you tell if this AC Delco air filter is dirty because it is black in color?

I put a light behind it and was still able to see through it. Inspected it of what I could see and it didn't appear to be dirty so factory original is still in 2005. I have two new AC Delco air filters i n the closet waiting to be put in per manual at 50,000 miles.

I've never seen a new ACDelco air filter for the LS2 that was new, so I don't know what color they came from GM in. The GM/Donaldson air filters that come on all 2008 and later Corvettes are light blue in color as are the aftermarket replacements that are rebadged Donaldson units. I've never seen any new filter that was black in color. I believe you once said you purchased your car used. Do you know if the filter in it is the original filter.

I found this photo of a ACDelco filter for a LS2 and it's blue in color.

Since you are changing your oil at 3K, you probably should change your air filters every 6 months to be safe. Both make equal sense.

Nearly 6 years and 6,200 miles. Haven't looked at it yet...maybe next year.
