Default engine operation temp

I have a C6 base and am wondering what the normal engine operating temp should be.

I have been running 190 - 194 deg in warmer temps and am now running 196 - 198 degrees with cooler outside temps. The coolant level is OK and the oil level is OK. This temperature change occured from one day to the next.

It is an 09 with 13K miles.

Any opinions?

You are actually worried about 2-6 degree temperature change? Are you speaking of the exact same conditions. Like fans running and not running.

Was the a/c running at either time?
Was the car in the same type of traffic?
What was the speeds of each?

But frankly, I would be VERY HAPPY if I witnessed that little of a change in engine temperatures and seasons. I don't think you have anything to be concerned about.

According to our 2009 Service Manual, the coolant thermostat starts to open at 188'F and is fully open at 206'F. So anything in that range is perfectly normal. In traffic, ours gets up to about 220' sometimes but seldom any higher.

Enjoy your car!

mine runs anywhere between 200 and 220 - saw some high temps when I was doing a lengthy steep incline on the highway in Wyoming and almost dirtied my pants (that's the problem with too many gauges, more things to worry about)

Tell me about it. I went up 12000 ft at Mt. Charleston and saw my first 220° and almost started to panic.

even 210 is nothing to worry about. Mine sees 220 during the summer here in Tx almost every day.

The fans on the 85 do not come on till 240.....factory settings.
