Aloha gang. My friend traded in his 05 A4. Nothing wrong g with it, 107,000 miles. He needs the extra seats. Anyhow. How does the A4 hold up?. I've been driving a big cammed 6 speed c5 with a stage 2 clutch for a few years. I don't mind at all. I might pick up my friends car but worried the auto trans is weak.
Thanks

My 2005 been very good to me. The only options I have are A-4 with 3.15 rear end with F-55 suspension.
I am still on original battery because it passes load test every time. Just changed out tires at 43,000 miles all 4 of them even though rears were still good. The fronts were gone. It is smooth riding and comfortable. It will need a new oil pan gasket because of a small oil leak that doesn't show any drips on floor but this is common on alot of Corvettes.

ive had mine since 2005, z51, a4. only issues i had were the recall issues on roof and pulley bolt loosening. both fixed under warranty. other than some paint on the start button and door release buttons which are a cheap fix it been rock solid. 51k on the odometer
I would think it would matter more how your friend took care of it for that amount of miles. Meaning, were there fluid changes, what type of fluid was put back in it (hopefully synthetic), how hard did he drive it, was it raced, etc.
I've never seen any real issues talked about here for the A4 transmission for the "05's but it was the 1st model year of the C6.
I would check with your friend to be sure he took care of all of the "1st model year" issues, and if he maintained the car over the 100k miles, go for it if you like the car.

C6 A4 is the same as the 1997-2004 C5 A4, just newer. Never heard of a problem with them in the C5's unless they were really beat on.

I notice on mine that the button on drivers door is starting to peel off as well as the starter button. Also the right side DIC buttons are starting to show wear perhaps one of the buttons doesn't light up if it is suppose to. I'll have to check on that.
Probably not the right guy to make a high mileage post (only 22K on my '05 A4 Z51) but from reading on the forum and if I remember, the trans was never really much of a problem. Seems the rear ends gave some trouble if they were beaten on too bad, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I think I remember reading that if you wanted to performance mod the car the A4 was actually more desirable than the A6, seemed to hold up better.

I just traded my 2005 in a few months ago. I had it for 7 years and about 50k miles. Not one major problem I can think of until the very end when the tranny would get stuck in Park (lots of threads on that). The A4 is bulletproof (if you can get it in gear... ) so I wouldn't worry about that. 107K miles is pretty high, but if well maintained it should be good for many more. I had a friend that put well over a quarter million miles on his C4 without a major failure.
Just hit 82K in mine ! Replaced Sway bushing and end links and upgraded the clutch to the LS9 setup. Vanity mirrors both broken tabs and pulley whine so far thats it !
Had my '05 for 2 + years, no problems <knock wood>, just turned 40K miles. Only issues, gas cap and "sticky" removing from Park as mentioned above. Replaced the rear hatch button - above rear license plate - as it was grimy and cleaning did not help. The fact that I'm struggling to think of something negative is a good thing.
Each car is different, no matter the year, owner maintenance/driving habits, etc. I'm happy with my ownership of this particular car and model year.
YMMV <Pun intended>
I put a blower on the car several months ago... and at over 600rwhp, the trans still shifts crisp and firm.
Not sure I could deal with the lousy rearend gearing and constant shifting of the A6 trans in the later models.
I knew that the 2005 was the last year of the proven A-4 transmission and that the 2006 was coming out with the all new A-6. I didn't want to take a chance on that part.

I've had my 05 since last fall and right now the right rear tire shows flat and I will have to take it back to the dealer to get it fixed. Other than the sticky "out of park" deal- no problems so far. Great car!!
