Default Seat back issue

Note: I updated my original post to clarify the issue.

I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with their seat back falling/reclining unintentionally. My drivers seat will fall back to a reclined position, but not all the way back to where it is hitting the rear compartment. This typically happens after I have not driven the car for a while. It some times happens right away, but other times only after I have been driving it for a while. I have ensured that the reclining handle is fully engaged. It appears to me that the seat is relaxing while the car is sitting and allowing the gear/latch mechanism in the seat back to disengage. Then when I get in the seat it falls back.

I have searched the Forum, but have only found similar issues posted about C5's. Any C6's with this issue? BTW, mine is a 2009 Z06.

Were you able to get the dealer to fix it? Did they replace the entire seat or just a component of the seat. I have taken my car to my local dealer twice to complain, but so far they haven't done anything for me. Of course, I can't reproduce the issue while it's at the dealer, so they claim they can't help me.

I'm nearing the end of my warranty so I want to get this resolved ASAP. I would appreciate any feed back and/or suggestions.

Thanks

If you can get the dealer to work on it, then it becomes a defect discovered but not corrected while under warranty, that usually will get it paid for a little past the warranty period.

OTOH, the dealer usually must see the problem themselves in order for it to become "official".

You might consider getting a GMPP extended warranty while your 3/36 is still in effect.
Email Dennis Fichtner, I think the prices go up at the end of this month.

Best of luck to you.

I happened to have my 2011 1LT into the dealer today for that exact issue. They are keeping the car overnight because of another issue. The tech so far has not been able to replicate the problem. He is going to drive it tomorrow to see if it happens.

I asked about the "rocking" chair issue and they are telling me all the new vettes do this. Should be an interesting conversation when I go pick up the car. I'll post what happens

Our 2009 developed a slight/occasional "clunk" in my seat around 30k miles, when I hit the brakes or sometimes just when I twisted around in the seat. The tech test drove it and it happened once or twice, he suspected the seat adjustor mechanism ($$$) but wasn't sure. He recommended I wait and see if it got worse.

It didn't get worse or better, but recently at 50k miles, I got airbag/seatbelt warning lights and the seat wouldn't go to the memory position, intermittantly. They replaced the driver seatbelt pretensioner and the memory module; while it was all apart they replaced the adjustor mechanism. About 1k miles since then, no clunk.

My seat back also broke on my 2011 GS. Turned out the firberglass seat back broke apart at the bottom where it connects to the bottom of the seat. You have to take the entire seat apart. My dealer ordered the part for me under warranty after a friend removed the seat from the car and took the seat apart. We put it back together and gave the defective/broken part back to the dealership. Good luck!!

What did you learn from your dealer? Did they fix your seat? Did they determine what the issue was?

They did not fix it. The tech said it was a bad design. They will only fix it when It breaks completely. I pushed the advisor but until it completely breaks they are not going to do anything.

Konomi,

Have you had your seat issue diagnosed by another dealer to have a second opinion?

No I have not had another dealer diagnose my seat issue. I'm sending you a private message. Thanks for the input.
