Lock Out- Trunk
OK, no flames please!...I feel dumb enough already!...
Today, I put my keys inside my tennis bag and then put the bag in the "trunk"...
The car was locked but luckily the top was off and I was able to climb in and retrieve my keys from the rear hatch area...much to the amusement of my tennis buddies...
After reading the Owner's Manual, I didn't see where the car recognizes the FOB inside the trunk...and leaves opens the locks. It mentions something about two FOBS but nothing about leaving the FOB in the trunk... Or did I miss it?...
Again, please, I am begging you, no flames... ..but how can I avoid this embarrassing situation again...
The antennas for the RCDLR search outward. The car is not designed to look in the rear hatch for a keyfob.
The main antenna is to the left of the glove box. It has a field that looks outward in a triangle roughly 45 degrees from the center of the key fob slot in the glove box. This anteanna is used when attempting to start the car.
The door antennas are located in the B pillars and look outward in a roughly 45 degree angle that basically draws a line from the B pillar across the door threshold and stops right around the gas tank.
The rear hatch antenna is located just about in the center of the rear fascia just above the license plate. and is a roughly 45 degree field centered on the key slot and angles outward.
My $3.20 B-106 key hidden on the car costs less then OnStar, and will work ANYWHERE in the world. Even in an enclosed parking garage under a building.
Anytime I do anything that requires me to leave my fob in the car (usually going to the beach) I have a B-106 spare in my pocket, or tied to my shorts.

For one of the few times on this forum, I must congratulate you. You read the owners manual!!! Well done. You had a good question.
Glad to see the community answered. Paul (talon90) as always has the best and most complete answer.
I've a '12 GS 1LT...The car was locked & I went to the back hatch (w/ my fob in my running shorts pocket) & popped the rubber button above the lic. plate, got changed into pants, but left the shorts & key fob in the trunk & shut the lid.
I went to get in the driver's door but it was locked..I though "ohhh S**t"...but was able to open the rear hatch with the button above the lic. plate.
I was surprised I was able to do this, although my shorts were close to the rear of the hatch area. Did they change anything in 2012, or did the rear hatch open b/c the fob was in the rear of the hatch area?
