Default Competetive Driving mode

Just got my 2013 coupe home today. Ahh, it is an awesome car. My first vette (will post pics tomorrow)!.

Can you anyone tell me how much of difference in power there really is between the competitive mode vs. traction control off/ active handling off vs. both trxn control/ active hndling on. Will I notice much of a difference in the city ? How about interstate? How do you drive your vette ?

I would echo the previous post. Unless you have previously driven cars with this much torque / HP - be careful. With TC and AH off it is VERY easy to get into trouble in a hurry.

tc&ah on=safe but borring
tc off=very little wheel spin before you get shut down
competitive driving mode=little wheel spins and sideways action before nannies take over (good mode to start learning the limits of the car/your skills/tires/ect)
tc&ah off=your on your own..."and you can get in a real bind real quick"

No difference in power - just the level of intrusion (or protection) that the AH and TC provide. With all of the nannys off you can keep applying power and make a bad situation worse in a real hurry. With TC and AH on you will get "saved" by the systems reducing power, applying brake(s), etc.

Even with everything on, the car has enough power to get you into big trouble before the electronics can shut the motor down.

Look around on Youtube for videos of Corvettes doing some nasty things. I bet most of these cars did not have anything turned off.

If you go to a very very big parking lot hold the button down to turn everything off,push it to the floor the car will swap ends,yes it will. NOT RECOMMENDED.

When I first got on it hard on an entrance ramp I could feel the rear end slipping around as it was going up in rpm,s. I was I 2nd gear and it surprised me when it happened because I thought the nannies prevented that. They do, but not all of it.l

My advice is to play around with all the nannies on for awhile before starting to turn things off. In some cars, the electronics jump in at the slightest hint of fun and shut you down. This is not one of them.

I left everything on for my first track day and was really (pleasantly) surprised at how much the system didn't intervene. I was able to slide the rear around quite a bit with no intervention, and I never felt like some GM lawyer was looking over my shoulder to prevent me from having fun on the track. On the street I really can't see any reason for disabling AH.

Zero difference in usable power in any mode. Yes, you will notice a HUGE difference in city driving when you do something stupid. Yes, you will notice a possibly fatal difference on the Interstate when you do something stupid.

The nannies will cut the throttle a little and apply brakes on the inside of turns to keep the tires from slipping and get the car around turns faster. They do not have any affect on how much power you can put to the pavement. They only limit the power wasted in smoking/sliding tires and they do it on an individual tire basis so you always get the maximum traction available at each tire.

Turning the nannies off for the vast majority of people is like replacing the tires with bicycle tires and disconnecting 2 of the brake cylinders. Fun? For a while, I guess. The nannies are there to keep you on the road when you make a mistake. For the majority of drivers you can go a lot faster with the nannies on than with them off. But, yes, if you have years of experience you MIGHT be able to go a little faster on a track with the nannies off and slipping a little which is why there is a switch.

But remember, this car has so much power that even the nannies can't always save you. There are lots of horror stories of people who can't seem to understand why the car went into the ditch just because they went into a turn too fast and weren't the nannies supposed to prevent that. Even the nannies won't help you violate the laws of physics. There is only so much traction available at each tire and when you ask for more you aren't going to get it.

I agree with the above post 100%

I would recommend that you get used to the car especially in the twisties with the nannies on.

You will get feed back when they come on. If they are coming on all the time I would suggest that your driving to fast for the road your on.

Now having said the above you will get a lot more car movement without the nannies on and on a tight road this could be bad. On a open track it is different with the provided room.

I will use comp mode sometimes just because the nannies can be annoying but usually just try and keep it smooth. Late braking is a strong move for the nannies to engage and is annoying.

If you keep it smooth even with the nannies on you can have a lot of fun and still have the safe guards to keep the car out of the woods or over the embankment.

Personally I have never been one to abuse my rides and late breaking and tire smoking is not one of my likes.

The C6 has a lot of power and when driving the back roads it does not take long to get out of position unless total concentration is being applied. F**king around can get real serious quickly.

When I was a teenager....every snowstorm provided a valuable driving lesson on how to handle a car. Some of us use to drive over to the local HS parking lot and "drift" when "drifting" meant being out in the ocean on a boat with the motor shut off...

That control does nothing to the engine, therefore it does nothing to the power. It only controls the handling. Traction control, active handling.

Do not under any circumstance turn these off and get on it. You will kiss your rear end so fast your eyes will not blink. The computer does thousands of calculations a second to help you keep the car going straight.

I have driven performance cars for too many years. I only turned them off once on my 03, that was the day before I got new tires. I just wanted to make some white smoke, the tires spun through 1st, 2nd, and into 3rd. At VIR I kept the computer on during my track time. It is faster and smarter than we are. Trust the computer!!!!!

Worthless personal experience...

I discovered that even in "full-nanny" mode things can get interesting if you become complacent.

Very early on while driving through a decreasing-radius turn (approaching an interstate merge) I rolled into the throttle in 3rd gear. Rear end broke loose and set up a gentle drift- not really that unnerving (to me anyway) BUT I didn't expect the systems to allow for that type of shenanigans. I have owned a number of cars that had less integrated traction systems so reacting to the drift was second nature but again, a little surprising with everything on.

Be VERY cautious pushing these cars and think carefully before diving into the deeper end of the pool. If you don't have an area that is safe to learn (and NOT a public road), go find one before getting daring.

If not respected, a machine like this will hurt more than your feelings pretty quick.

Your car must be different. If I turn the TC off my car will spin the rear tires for as long as I want. Mine doesnt spin just a little with the TC OFF. My 2013 is that way and my 2012 was too.
