I'm thinking about replacing the stock Navigation / Reciever with a different one. I saw this in another post. (Kenwood DNX-5180) Around $500. Anyone have this or something similar for the price? Are they decent? Easy to replace? Thanks.
i can only say i upgraded to the stock NAV from the standard radio and it was a piece of cake
i could only assume with a plug in kit swapping another one in should be about the same
someone on here had some nice step by steps
i personally like the look of the factory NAV
NAV functionality.... lets not get into it other then i try to remember it was what a 2004 design for the 05-up years back in the day.......
I guess I would also like to know if the stock system is better than one of those $500 replacements. I just purchased my vette and a couple of the hard buttons don't work. and just got the nav dvd's from a member here and went to put it in and there is a cd or dvd stuck in the nav dvd slot. So my thinking was to get another unit. There are some used stock systems on here. Since I need to change it don't know if I should get another stock one or aftermarket???
The GM NAV system in the C6 is not the best. You can do better with a cheap Garmin or TomTom. A quick search of these forums will return hundreds of results with complaints about the stock NAV.

Indeed. OEM is very clunky and is not intuitive in the least.

The OEM is not acceptable at ALL! We picked up our 2013 about 2 months ago and the sales chick couldn't even get it to work! She said, "I can't believe this thing is like this..." As stated above, a $100 portable unit from Best Buy would be better!
Post this up in the audio section and you will get lots of input, talk to
"c5bearsfan", his name is Dennis and he can set you up with everything you need. You will find him in the Audio section.
Replace stock nav with Kenwood DNX6990 HD, replace all of the bose speakers with Kicker speakers,10" Kicker sub in rear compartment, power amps,on for Radio and the other for sub.Removed center speaker.System is outstanding, for the first time i can hear the seperation of the speakers from front to rear.
A couple things I didn't like about my Kenwood in my 08. It is not as easy to upgrade (or cheap) as you think. It looks aftermarket. It has no HUD integration and automatic volume. Bluetooth didn't work with my current phone or my wife's.
Portable unit? Is cheap because it looks real cheap no matter how you "install" it. It still is not accurate all the time. I used one for a couple years in my 08 and used various mounts.
OEM unit! Not the best out there for sure but I don't concentrate on my NAV when I'm driving my Corvette, radio either for that matter. Heck I don't even depend on it for Navigation. If you are a NAV/stereo kind of person then it probably is not for you. The Garmin-based OEM NAV in my wife's 300C is 100x better and so is the stereo.
