Default Just a fast question...

I need a new fob, so i may as well order the new looking ones. I've read about the 2008&up fob keys and they all say that you must change the locks if you have a 05-07. But i'm wondering why can't i just give the key to a keysmith and duplicate my old key to the new one? Am i missing something

The 05-07 is a wider key than the newer one. I read here once where someone was able to cut the the grip area off the old key and mount it to where the key is on the new fob. Search around and you should find it.

I found the thread HERE.

We had the old style fob on our 2006, and now the new style on our 2009.

The new style is bigger, heavier, hard to remove the key, hard to replace the battery without cracking the case, and easy to have other items in your pocket activate the panic alarm or open the trunk, etc.

A major step backwards in fob design.

I have never been a fan of the new fob style....if I had a newer C6, I would buy an older fob to use on a day to day basis. Mine is 5 years old now and looks like the day I got it.
