LED tail lights
For those of you that have switched, are the LED tail lights brighter?

YES, much brighter. At night they will blind the driver directly behind you at a stop light.

Much brighter. Any suggestions on how to reduce the brightness?

Can't find the right tint to use. I don't want it 'blacked out'. I want to keep the tail lights red.
Any resistor based options?

Here's some photos.
Daylight comparison. Much more noticeable at night.
Non tinted at night.
Tinted compared to non tinted LEDs.

Thanks. I put the blackouts on and don't think they are bright enough so I'm looking for options. I love the blackouts but want to make sure the tailgaters see me hit the brakes

If your ambitious you can use VHT Niteshades to tint the red LED tail lights your self.
http://www.vhtpaint.com/products/niteshades/
Just do one coat and they will be a dark red instead of black looking.
That is what I am about to do with an extra set of LED tail lights that I bought.
Use GOOGLE to find videos with instructions on how to do this. You can even spray on a clear coat.

for some reason my LED tails constantly dim at night. Don't know what it is. It's not a flickering effect, but it's like they're just dimming and getting brighter all the time. They're not at a constant brightness.

Yes they are significantly brighter and the BIGGEST factor is the speed of illumination- they light up a lot faster than incandescent bulbs which gives the following you more time to apply the brakes. much safer.

I imagine the OP got his answer 11 years ago when he first asked it.
