Default Hip Replacement

Have any of gone through total hip replacement surgery, and have you encountered any problems entering/exiting your C6?

I had the surgery last week and am looking forward to a 3-4 month rehab. Should put me right at the start of driving season here in Michigan. My surgeon was not very enthusiastic about me driving the C6 after rehab.

Hope some of you can shed some light on your experiences with this topic. Thanks.

I had a total left hip replacement 4 years ago, I was 56 then. The first two weeks of course were the worst, but i was back to mowing my lawn at 4 weeks. As your doctor will probably tell you exercise is all important. I bought my first Corvette, a C6 just this summer, of course by now my hip is as good as new and doesn't affect me getting in or out. You will be weak and tender on that side but I would speculate that you should be good to go for the spring thaw. Best of luck with your new hip.

Hope you have a speedy recovery! As you stated the driving season is 4-5 months away so hopefully you'll be ready to go then or sometime soon after. Good luck...

My wife had both her hips replaced. She had trouble entering and exiting in the first 9 months after replacement ; but after that , no problem.

had left hip total replacement 2 years ago and now it works better than original. as previously stated ... first ten days will definately get your attention. dedicated, constant rehab is an absolute necessity. the rehab pain lessens after every day you exercise it. was back playing golf at 4.5 weeks, and just 3 weeks driving the z. had a friend who wasn't as dedicated w/ rehab ... i can't describe the pain and reduced motion / flexibility he has. work it and you'll have a great recovery (as long your surgeon did all the right stuff!). best regards, jeff.

I had my left hip replaced 11 yrs ago (on my 40th birthday). Like the others above, mine is better than new now, so no issues. I'm having issues with my right hip now & can see the day I'll replace it too.

This is my 1st Vette (only had her for a little over a month) but I don't have any fear of not being able to get in & out of it.

Hope your replacement goes well ... the car sitting there will give you something to look forward to.

Cheers!

Work hard at the rehab and you will be fine. I've had my left hip replaced twice and my right hip broken and put back together with plate and screws. I drive my C6 with no problems. You will too as long as you do all the painful and hard work the physical therapists tell you to do. Good Luck

I had a hip replacement in January 08 due to a head-on collision. (Not my fault, I was hit head-on in my lane!) I learned how to get in and out in my '01 C5. I enter butt first and have no problem other than being careful how I swing my feet in. My '11 C6 GS seems a bit easier to enter and exit but it may be that my mobility is improved. I use it as a daily driver and a slightly awkward entry or exit will not keep me from the luxury of driving my Vette.
