Default Modular Garage Flooring

Has anyone installed the Motofloor product sold through Costco? If so, I'd be interested in learning what you think of it-from ease of installation to wear, etc.

Isn't the floor in your pictures a "paint-on" type coating??

I think the OP may be asking about the interlocking "poly" type tiles.

Your floor does look good though !!

I've had it 4 1/2 years. Very easy to work with. No wear issues. It does get stained by some car care products, in my case the tire dressing left a yellowish stain on the white tiles that doesn't wash off with the basic cleaning I do. Haven't really tried very hard to remove it with anything stronger as it isn't terrible, just there and can be noticed.

FYI, in case you didn't know, Motofloor is made by Racedeck and ships directly from Racedeck. It's their lowest line product that they don't sell themselves. But it is the same material and design so quality is tops. Motofloor just has fewer surface "traction bumps" than the other Racedeck lines. I prefer that since it seems easier to clean. Maybe, maybe not, but I'm happy.

I have examined all these floor covering options and have come to the conclusion I just have to spend $2K to get the covering ZO ZICK has in the second post. I want to be able to wash tehe floor down with a hose. Even with the DIY options I would still wind up paying around $1K so for another thousand I get a first class floor. Meh...!

you can do that floor yourself. Its a roll on paint and then you toss the flakes in while the paint is wet. If you can change your oil you can do that.

I went through this garage floor ordeal about 6 months ago when we moved into our new house.

1. Paint on epoxy floor coatings ... Looks good for awhile, but tends to bubble or peel in spots after awhile if self-applied. May not cure properly if self-applied. Suggest professional application for a quality job!

2. Interlocking flexable tiles ... RaceDeck and Swisstrax are good and pretty easy to lay, but hard to clean once dirty. May discolor if certain chemicals are spilled on them (but individual tiles can be replaced as needed).

3. Porcelain tile ... Permanent and easy to clean. If installed properly, these tiles will not crack or break. Downside is that they can be slippery when wet.

I decided on 20" x 20" glazed porcelain tiles purchased at Lowes and layed by a tile contractor I found cheap on Craigslist. Very happy with the job. Glazed porcelain is much harder and thicker than your standard ceramic tile you might find on interior house floors. You would be very hard pressed to break any of these tiles when used on a non-commercial floor such as your own garage at home.
_________________________

Here is the breakdown in price for my 3-car garage with a total of 585 Sq Ft.

Brand / Material:
Tilecrest 'Illusion' Glazed Porcelain

Edge:
Rectified

Size:
20" x 20"

Thickness:
3/8" (9.55 mm)

PEI Rating:
Class 4

Box Quantity:
6 Tiles per Box

Coverage per Box:
16.66 Sq Ft.

Total Floor Area:
585 Sq Ft.

Tiles Needed:
37 boxes @ $ 20.55 per box = $ 760

Thinset Dry Mortar (Ultraflex 1):
11 bags @ $ 11.31 per 50 lb. bag = $ 124

Sanded Grout (Keracolor):
2 bags @ $ 11.95 per 25 lb. bag = $ 24

Delivery Charge: $ 29

Tax: $ 56

Installation Labor Charge:
$ 1.50 per Sq Ft. x 585 Sq Ft. = $ 878

(Lowes prices above Includes a 10% military discount on all materials)

Total Cost: $ 1,871 . . . ($ 3.20 per Sq Ft. Installed)
_________________________

I can tell you that 585 Sq Ft. of "RaceDeck" will cost you a little more than what I paid for this porcelain tile job (including the labor to install the porcelain tile).

Hope this may help someone thinking about tileing a garage floor.

Ron,

I like the tile and the painted floors, but could someone post pics of the modular floor the OP was talking about? ... Curious to see.

Thanks to all the replies to my post on Motofloor product from Costco. A lot to think about, particularly the option of glazed porcelain tile.

Thanks for the input! Will post once I make a decision.

Ron,
Sorry to hijack, but I have to ask:
Any worries about using a floor jack or jack stands on it? It looks amazing.
