A lot has been offered on tires. My GS with 17k needs new tires. I have made the decision to stay with GY's. My question is what is a good price for 4 insstalled and balanced? Dealer says about 23k. Advice please. cutnout aka Charlie

If you're going to stay with GYs (as I have so far) look at both ends. I'm getting twice the milage out of the rears as the front. About 21,000 on the front and approaching 40,000 on the rears now. Kind of nice to only buy two at a time. By the way I think two fronts cost me about $750 at Discount Tire. That was a couple of years ago.

There isn't enough data yet to be sure, but the Michelin PS2's might turn out to be slightly cheaper, per mile, than the goodyears; due to price/miles. I find in the base car the Michelins are a better tire than the Gen 1 Supercars, no experience with Gen 2.

Check tirerack.com to see how the dealer compares.

I honestly can't believe you're getting new tires and staying with the run craps. They were the FIRST thing to go on all three of my C6's.

First, I left out a decimal point--interesting how just one little point can change a dollar amount, aw well its 2300 dollars.
As an older vet owner I dont know if I have gen I or 2 and I dont drive agressive. The originals are worn both front and back on the inside. I did get the front end realigned from the factory settings and the dealer assures a beter wear on the new ones when installed. They think I could get another 4000miles on the original set--so I dont have to buy a new set quick--so I can shop and will.
Other club members with Grand Sports are seeing the need to replace theirs as well--one with just 12000 mles but he drives a little more agressive than me.
Just as info I got 30000 miles on my C5,s--big difference from 2003.

I don't know why people bust on them.

The 'run craps' as they are called on my car are quiet, (I mean really, we have Corvettes with everyone boasting about semi loud to loud exhausts, so how much noise do they noticeably make comparatively speaking?)

Mine also handle nicely, & after 4 K miles with 6 track runs (yeah, the rears were lit up a bit that day), the rears still have 8/32" of tread & have 9/32" on the fronts.

I don't see them wearing out in 8-12K miles as everyone says.
