Default Trunk popping open

It seems every time I get out and close the door, the hatch pops open. The first thought it was remote in the pocket some how hit open buttons. That's not the case, I held the remote and it does the same thing.
Some time when I close it, pops open more times then I can count.

Anybody have any wild idea's.

PS Brand new key fob.

Not sure why your truck would pop open. Maybe your rear hatch, but not your TRUCK.

Maybe battery in fob going bad.

my first thought would be... does it pop open if you have a window down and door closes. sudden air pressure pushing trunk open?

does it happen with both remotes?

there is this thread, but they never gave their solution.. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...by-itself.html

also, i know this sounds odd, but battery connection, or just a bad battery.. bad or corrosion or simple bad connection causes strange things.

Are you sure that it is actually "locked" prior to popping open. Try shutting the doors with the window open and see if the lack of air pressure against the hatch solves the problem - if it does then you are probably not fully latched and the force of the door closing pops it (the hatch) open.

Coupe or Vert?

I have found my hatch lid popped open (not up much, just unlatched and up 1/2 inch) first thing in the morning. I am thinking it doesn't take much to accidentally hit the latch button on the fob, which I keep in a front pants pocket. Doesn't someone offer a fob cover that prevents this?

It happens when the windows are up or down, still goes pop! The battery is five years old. I think going to replace tomorrow.

You can google/buy fob jacket. Then, take a piece of thin but stiff plastic, like a loose leaf binder cover, and cut out a piece to "fill" the entire front of the fob jacket. Slip that into place inside the jacket and the buttons will be well protected. You can also punch small holes in the plastic over the buttons (remove plastic first!) so they can be pushed with a ball point pen.

Some people open up the fob and put tape over the contacts for the buttons, but I like being able to use them sometimes.

Not to be rude, but why has no one suggested that the latch needs adjusting?

naw, your not rude at all. our thoughts were that if it doesnt open on bumps, then something else is causing it.

Number 1 reason is what most of of have done, accidentially pressed open button on fob (i've done it) That has been ruled out.
Number two is forced open by sudden air pressure. That ruled out with window open , door shutting.
Number 3 is accidentally pressing lower dash open button with knee. Ruled out.
Number 4 is low battery in fob and/or car battery causes strange occurances and have caused (as reported in threads) things like this to happen.
Number 5 is corrosion in the junction of wires. As noted in a thread, if your tail lights flash (on door locking) at identical time hatch pops, its that current to lights triggering hatch open.

hatch latch needing adjusting, sure, if you could hit bumps or bump/shake the car (other than door closing) and pop it, sure.

The external hatch-release button (above the license plate) may be stuck. When you get out, the fob reads as outside the car and the lid pops.

awesome! try leaving fob in car, with window OPEN, get out, close door. wait..... hatch pop? reach in through window , leaving door shut, get fob, step away from car. wait... hatch pop?

there is removal/cleaning of button over rear tag if ya need them.

two points awarded for the idea!!

My car started doing this at random times then I noticed the third brake light started burning dim when it was raining then the problem stayed third brake light always on dim with parking lights and hatch would pop when the lights would flash when locking I found my problem in the main connector at the rear of the car mine was so bad I had to cut the connector out and solder the wires together if I remember correctly pull the right side inner taillight out reach down low in the rear cover you will find the connector hooked to a metal brace pull it up and out of the taillight hole disconnect it I'm sure you will find your problem if I'm not mistaken I found info on a tsb if I can be of more help let me know it was a year ago I fixed mine drove me nuts.
