Default Catalatic Converter problems

Just had the second cat converter replaced last week, the first was replaced 14 months ago, so both are changed out.

I don't run my '07 manual hard (now has 50k miles), it's only been on a track once since new, the dealer owner said he'd never heard of this, lucky they're on warranty.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!!

Well that's not normal.
I'd say you need to find the cause before your warranty expires.

I believe fuel dumping into the cat can destroy it.
Maybe leaky injector.

And just the opposite a lean condition.

Vibrations maybe.

Wrong type of fuel (or vandalism) or a fuel additive destroying the cat innards.

Perhaps some other co-member can add some insights.

Good points for finding the cause.
However I believe EPA mandated emissions system components are warrantied long after the 3/36 & 5/100 expire.
If I'm wrong someone will be along to make necessary correction(s).

8 years, 80K miles (presume, whichever comes first). suggestion to solve problem is a good one because something does appear to be wrong. haven't read/don't recall seeing anyone post of a cat failure.

8 years/80K miles. Doubtful it is a rich or lean condition causing the failure. The pre cat O2 sensor would be indicating either situation and setting codes. The post cat O2 sensor indicates whether or not the cat is performing correctly. There was an issue with dealers getting cars in that indicated the cats needed replacement when they didn't. GM released a TSB that tells dealers to apply an update to the ECM program that eliminates unneeded cat replacement. Did the dealership apply the TSB?

You didn't say WHY the converters were replaced? Were they restricted? Did you fail an emissions test? Were you throwing P0420 and P0430 codes? Did they give you any explanation?!?!

Interesting...I never heard that before. Sure sounds like a shop may have been "throwing parts" at the problem.

Good question.
Now I recall the issue on some cars, and, the fix was a ECM reflash.
