Hello everyone.
I wanted to get opinions on something.
I have a black 2005 C6 with wide body rear end conversion. I need some paint and minor body work done. The shop I have the car in is a restoration shop.
Below is what they quoted me. I am wondering first if these are reasonable prices and second if I'd be better off cost wise trying to buy these same parts off the forum and have them shipped to me?
We evaluated the paint repairs. Your rear bumper would have to be completely disassembled, sanded, repaired in a few areas, repainted, and clear coated - the charge for this would run about $800.
Your acrylic top has a lot of crazing in it which we could try sanding and buffing to remove. If it is on the surface that would repair it (at least for a while), if the crazing is deeper, we would not be able to remove it. Either way, we could not warranty the work, but we would also include the effort in the bumper repair.
If this is a quality shop, the quote sounds reasonable to me. I would be a little concerned about trying to get a part from somewhere else and install it; there may be issues with the color match that a restoration shop can easily avoid.
My experience has been that discounted body work doesn't work out. Had some repair done on my 90 ZR-1 with a well-recommended shop. He was more interested in telling me how much money I was going to save. It was an insurance job and I just wanted it done right. A few months later it developed cracks in the paint. Bi took it back and he whined and cried, but eventually said he would fix it. Three or four months later the same cracks came back. He refused to FIC it. I bad mouth him every chance I get, and we're in he same Corvette club. Took it to. A high dollar restoration shop and they not only paint matched the color perfectly, but sent me pictures of the progress. Car looks super one year later. Pay me now o pay me twice, which is what I did
