Your nameis Z06LUST and you have a Grand Sport logo as an avatar. CLASSIC! lol
I've owned 3 Z06s.... 2 C5's and 1 C6. Bought an 11 Grand Sport after an arm injury made shifiting an issue and manual had to go...arm is better (1 yr of post surgery rehab)....auto GS is now gone. Never paid attention to the avatar--much more important things in this life to consider........ Screen name has been the same since 2004...why change???
Well to me. 80 Flywheel hp isn't that much. And I guess I would say I am not to fond of the gs fenders. But just wanted others inputs on why a gs over a c6z.

80 flywheel HP is night and day in this case... I own one of each so I know.
Buying new, there is a dollar difference as well as a huge difference in availability, as there are a whole lot more brand new GS models than Z06 models on the lots.

$20k difference in similiar cars (option levels) If ya want to build your own buy the GS, then add Z06 front fenders, have the engine rebuilt, add a blower etc.....Your car, well above Z06 performance for less money....just understand it wil Not be a Z06 nor carry a 427 engine. That is important to some and not to others-highly individual in choice/decision.
I should have said. Im comparing 06-08 c6z to 2011 gs
I have a 2010 GS,I didn't want to fork out the extra bucks for the Z06.
Basically, the difference is the engine and the frame. However,if you order the GS with a 6-sp and a coupe, you'll get the rear end differential cooler, engine oil cooler, tranny cooler,10.5 qt dry sump system, with the battery mounted in the trunk and a forged crank. You do not get these goodies with either a convertible or auto tranny.
If you can find a decent price with low miles and the color you want,by all means get the Z. One thing I do like on occasion over the Z,I can take my top off,the Z you can't.
I don't know if I helped or not,but this is my 2 cents on the matter.
