NY dealer quoted me $1048 inc. tax and HB. Belts, etc. will be a bit more. I've seen mention of 4 wheel alignments being done, not sure why that's mentioned unless it's needed, dealer made no mention of that to me. Two independent shops, one priced at app. $600 inc. part, another was $700 inc. part. These prices are for GM OEM part, aftermarket ATI (arguably the best according to the Forum) unit goes for about $500 just for the part. Figure 5-6 hours labor cost. Why do you think you need one?
They do the alignment because the steering rack needs to be dropped. I dont know if its imperative that they do it but they said it was part of the job. Who am I to argue it and it was covered by warranty.
I did it myself the other day in my garage...alignment is not required...Michele guide said it takes 8 hours apart and 8 back together..I did the whole job in five. Pm if you want to know how to do it
And to add to what's been said in all the other threads, ain't it a damn shame that GM didn't make a proper one and, not having done so, won't pay every Corvette owner that has one go out, along with any other part that gets damaged!?! My 06 just turned over 58,000...and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I just had an argument with GM Customer Service the other day, I was trying to get them to absorb some of the over $1K cost to replace the HB on my '05 22K miles C6. He's telling me there's no evidence that HB's going bad is a chronic problem and the reason mine is bad is because it's a normal wear and tear item for my 8 year old car. I tried several times to tell him to do an internet search and he'd see how big a problem it really is but he was having none of it, he said the dealer told him it's normal wear and tear, screw 'em, I'll take it to an independent shop or maybe do it myself.
Replacing the HB there is no way i would use OEM. It is a known design defect used since 1997.
I would Replace it with a ATI HB and solve the problem for good.
