Hello all.....
New Guy with his first Corvette!
I have a 2012 GS, and the front lower splitter hits the pavement a lot?
Is there an adjustment to raise the front end slightly?
Thanks,
Ed
The air deflector? If so, while driving on flat pavement? Or pulling into/out of driveways, etc. If the latter, that's normal, mine scrapes everytime I pull into/out of my driveway. You can crank the front lowering bolts clockwise, and raise the front some. Instructions below...
I have to back out of my driveway so nose does not hit and I scrape the air deflector every time. It sounds much worse that it looks though. I have only minor scuff marks.
In the driveway! No chance it will go over a speed bump!
If that's normal, guess I'll have to deal with it?
Thanks
That's normal, try backing in. If I pull in forward, I scrape, if I back in, I don't. That lower deflector is going to scrape from time to time, it's pretty soft, and will give. And they are not too expensive to replace when the time comes.
Actually its going down that really causes the issue. Nose first the front end (splitter?) hits so I have to back down. The air dam scrapes a little but I tend to back out straighter because I dont want to back off the driveway into the ditch. Lesser evil and all.
Just to be clear, you are talking about the front splitter (on the bumper) and not the 3 piece air dam back under the car, correct?
If it is causing a problem you can raise the front slightly by adjusting the lowering bolts. You can do this yourself or your dealer can do it in a few minutes for about $60 or so.
I know it sounds terrible, but it really doesn't harm anything. My driveway is on a hill and both of our C6's scrape when we back down. Mine has been doing it since Feb. '05.

I am toying with a solution for this that would involve replacing the front tires on my GS with 265/40/18s. That would buy me 20mm of diameter and 10mm of ground clearance (4/10ths of an inch). Problem is that in doing that I would need to increase the diameter of the rear tires in order to keep the AHS from freaking out. There are very few tire alternatives to get more diameter in the rear, particularly given that I refuse to go wider than 325mm tires on the rear. The next best solution is to move from the 325/30/19s to 295/35/19 tires on the rear (there are no 315/35/19 nor 305/35/19 sized tires unless you are willing to go Mickey Thompson). Problem is the 295s won't fit on our 12" rims. Well, they'll fit, but I've spoken to Michelen about this and the tires won't stay on the rim under strong lateral force.
So, I've found some GS style aftermarket wheels designed for base coupes (yes, and they make GS fender hash marks for base coupes as well---who would do that....well that's bedsides the point). The point is those GS style knoock offs come in 19x10 and the 295/35/19 will fit on those wheels. They are available in black or chrome. Unfortunately, I have the silver painted aluminum GS wheels which I actually prefer to the chrome. So I figure I could purchase the black 19x10 wheels remove the clear coat and paint the wheels silver. I've already ordered the paint. But, I hate to have to do all of this and haven't decided to go ahead with this project. I'm one of those northerners whose Vette is in storage and thus far I probably have under 50 miles on it and haven't concluded whether this spoiler scraping is going to drive me crazy as my Vette is just a joy toy and not a daily driver. But the scraping does bug me. I've even written to Michelin complaining about this problem on behalf of GS and Z06 owners and suggested to them that they would sell a whole lot of pilot run flats or super sports if they manufactured them in a 305/35/19 (those would fit our 12" rims). I'll let you know what I end up doing.
