Default Options button not working

Have 2005 A4. Options button was not working so ordered new set of DIC buttons. Just put in, still all buttons work except options. Any ideas?

Do you get no beep and no message or anything on the DIC?

Your Key FOB is probably Number 3 or Number 4.
Options only work with Fob 1 and Fob 2.

That shouldn't matter, the options are set on the DIC, not via fob. For example: you enter the car with fob #3 and you tell the car (by pushing the button on the door) that you are driver 1 for a few cycles, the car will assume that every time fob #3 enters the car, that it should set up for driver 1. If, after that you push driver 2 even once you will cancel the "learning" and will have to go through a few cycles again to "retrain" the setting preference for that fob.

I have never seen this in writing in any manual, but that is the way it works for me on my '05 A4.

Maybe his car is like mine and we don't have buttons on the door. (Corvette Base)
I just know when my FOB 1 was stolen. My new fob programmed FOB 3 had no options and the options button was useless.
I reprogrammed the two FOBs I had back to 1 and 2 and I had my options back...
Just saying.

This is from the Owner's Manual under DIC Personalization.

If a keyless access transmitter that is not
labelled 1 or 2 is used, the personalization system will
not recognize the transmitter. The Driver Information
Center (DIC) will not display a current driver number and
the features that are normally programmed through
the DIC will be set to the default states. Also, if the
OPTION button is pressed, the DIC does not display the
menus
used to set personalizations, but instead
displays OPTIONS UNAVAILABLE for a few seconds.

The "labelled 1 or 2" statement is misleading as a fob with any number on it can be programmed as a #1 or #2. Just as a fob labeled 1 or 2 could be programmed as a 3 or 4.

lisa- I don't think the car is learning to apply fob #1 preferences when you use fob #3. Once you have selected fob #1's settings by using the door button, it remains in that state until you change it or use fob #2, and of course, using fob #1 wouldn't change what you had selected using the door button.

This also assumes you have the "Auto Memory Recall" featured turned on.

Too much curd in the buttons and one of them is sticking inwards and disabling the rest of the buttons.

You can check the connector on the back of the buttons, as well as pull the button section off the bezel to give it a good cleaning to clear such with electrical contact cleaner so the buttons and button contacts are not sticking inwards.

30 seconds into this video has the bezel out far enough to check the connector, and even pull the buttons off the bezel if needed.

If the buttons are brand new, then chase the wire harness/loom since either you have bad connections (wire to clip connector) at the end connectors, or a wire is cracked/cut in the loom.

Unfortunately the individual lights in the switches are not really designed to be replaceable.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the lamps with LED's.

The conventional approach is to just wait until several of the lights are out and then replace the entire switch assembly. Part costs about $30.

I get nothing. The manual states you would get the "OPTIONS UNAVAILABLE" message if is was not FOB 1 or 2. I get no response at all. All other buttons working fine. FWIW, the DIC is recognizing the FOB as Driver 2 when you first start up. Any suggestions? Thanks

correction: it doesn't tell me it is recognizing FOB 2, just Driver 2 referencing the driver selection. Will change to Driver 1 if you push the Driver 1 button. It is independent on which FOB you are using. I just got through programming a new FOB to FOB 3. Wondering if something happened to FOB 2? (I do not have FOB1). It is just strange that no beep, no words, no nothing when you push the options button.
