Need to get a new windshield - any suggestions on which ones are better and is there a different windshield for HUD's. I think I will have a GM dealer (body shop) do the work.
Some people say the non-HUD w/s will work just fine, but others aren't so happy. My thinking, if the non-HUD really worked as well then GM would save a lot of money by going to only one w/s. But they don't.
After the installation, wait a couple of days and take it through a good car wash, then do a garden hose test. Our C5 w/s was replaced and it took me a year to discover, driving in a torrential rain, that it leaked. Car was a DD but I never knew it leaked until then.
Just a suggestion, you might want to check into Safelight. They have many positive reviews here. Here is just one representative example.......and they come to you so more convenient:

There is an excellent chance that a GM dealer will simply call in an independent service to do the work. Far cheaper for the dealer than their own people for this specialized work. I would call Safelite directly.
The key to a good windshield replacement is a glass shop that knows Vettes and has done a bunch. I had one done last year and it was painless. They came to my house and did it in my garage. Although it doesn't say GM on it, the glass company assured me it wasn't made in China and was made by one of the suppliers of Vette windshields to GM.
Yes, HUD windshields are different.

Safelite installed a GM OEM HUD glass into my ZR1. The installer showed me where the GM emblem has been mostly but not completely erased off the glass. Had something to do with marketing agreements. It was installed right in my driveway at home underneath the carport.

If the car has a HUD unit already in it i would get a windshield for the HUD unit, if the car doesn't have the HUD unit in it i wouldn't unless i had the intention of a future HUD install.
Dealer body shop is going to sub it out. The installer with the glass will come to the body and do it. Body shop marks it up and calls you to come get it. Side door glass body shop would do in house. A lot of dealers won't keep windshields in stock or order. They are much more exspensive then getting one through a supplier. Plus they have a history of being cracked or chip due to handling. The dealers I worked for NONE did or wanted to deal with windshield's.
