I am trying to install side skirts I puchased from RPI and have a question for anyone who has installed after market side skirts from ANY company. My skirts have a (pretty thick) foam strip running most of the length of them where it attaches to the car which does not allow them to sit flush with the car and is pretty noticable. I am sure it is to protect the car from scratches but it doesn't look right to me? Do cars that come with factory side skirts or any other company have this noticable foam padding?
Thanks,
Scott
My skirts from c7 didn't have the foam strip, but I'm pretty darn sure you won't be able to see it once installed. With the pop rivets, its likely going to compress that foam quite a bit and solve your problem.
Thanks. My skirts came with screws. I did a trial run and could not push the skirts tight enough against to car, it was still quite obvious. Another problem is that the foam does not run the full length so where it isn't, there's a gap.
sxs,
I put the RPI CF skirts on my 11GS vert last fall. I didn't have any problem with the foam showing once all the screws were tightened. A couple of suggestions that I used for putting them on. Behind the front wheel on the bottom, there is a trim screw. I believe that it fits into the second hole on the skirt. What I did was elongate the hole in the skirt about 3/4 inch I propped the front of the skirt up against the bottom of the body, then intalled and tightened the screws (2) at the back of the skirt/flare. From there I put the screw back in the elongated hole, with a fender washer on it, then proceeded to install the rest of the screws from the back to the front. Be careful of drill size and torque on the screws. The body plastic is pretty thin and soft, so it's easy to strip out a few of the mounting holes. By doing it this way, I think its easier to keep the skirt in the proper position heigth wise and the lose screw on the front allows the skirt to float back and forth just a little bit. I like the way mine look. Good luck.
