Thanks everyone!
I'm 32 and for as far back as I can remember, I have always wanted a corvette. When I was 21, I couldn't yet afford one, so I bought a slightly used (less than 12k miles) 99 Z28 instead. I drove it for nearly 12 years, and although the camaro looked awful by the time I sold it, it was very reliable. I had said I would drive it till the wheels fell off, but it outlasted my interest.
I made a tough decision to go with a c6 z51 convertible over a c5 z06 last month. I drive my c6 daily (as long as it is not heavily raining or snowing), and drive an 89 f150 when I can't.
I tried to research before buying the car as much as I could, but sometimes you don't stumble upon specific issues until they happen to you. Right out of the gate, I had a few problems within 2 weeks of ownership.
I had one with the "service traction control" message, a bad reverse lamp switch, a few interior problems, as well as a malfunctioning hatch switch. None of these things were very serious, and all were very inexpensive to fix, thanks to the helpful folks on the forum.
Now, I've been able to take cash I've saved from not having to pay someone else to perform the repairs and spend it upgrading and modifying the car. I've replaced door switches and bezels, the center console and pod surround, as well as the wheels. I replaced the stereo with a 2008 (aux ftw), replaced the hood light, and various other small odds and ends - only possible from guides and photos that others made available.
I hope others continue to enjoy their cars as much as I enjoy mine.
