Default Navigation updates?

I purchased an 05 with Navigation and I'm certain the maps are outdated, not sure as it is in storage? According to the DVD that I found in the owners manual you can update the maps?

Does anybody know the best source for this update?

Thank you!

Some years, the GM had two DVD's- one for eastern US, one for western. I think those years were about 2009-2011, but not sure.

Just be sure you get both discs, if appropriate for that year.

honestly, unless you have routes not showing up that you depend on, or you seriously depend on it for traveling, you can get by without it

but then again....
i guess no uses a map like we did back in the day lol
i've had updates (one free and 2 versions higher), and quite honestly, didn't notice any difference, same as others have reported and same roads/streets missing

I have the 2013 DVD and it is not up to date for local roads that are 10+ years old

So the update may not really be an update depending on your location.

Seems like the "updates" are mainly to advertizers. New restaurants, gas stations, motels, etc, etc.

GM gets $$ from both sides. We pay for the Nav., we pay for the updates and the Advertizing customers pay GM for their spots on the Nav disc.

Just spend $125 for a new Garmin 40LM with free life time map updates( 4 times a year) and forget the factory NAV.

Easy to make a mount(so it's not suck on the windshield) to fit in the cup holder.

I wish GM would not bundle these nav's. They are not even up-to-date when new and cost much to much for what you get and with the vette doesn't even include the back-up camera that is included in their trucks. I was forced to have the nav. but use my cheap Garmin for a GPS which came with free life-time updates and the screen is just as big. The whole system cost $60.00 less the the "update" DVD so why would I bother buying the update DVD?

New navigation disk not up to date not worth the $150 plus shipping. Same as my ver 7.00 except one disk.

Nav discs are always somewhat out of date, we have two other factory navs from different makers and they are both like the C6- a litle bit behind.

The C6 factory nav is far from perfect, but we've been using it for 7 years/95k miles, and i actually prefer it over the two Garmins and cellphone navs we have. Everyone gets to make their own choice.

Despite that, I actually buy a new disc every year because we drive all over the U.S. and I want the latest info available, even if not perfect. Of course, I also use good paper maps too.

Thank you!
If you have an 05 with navi and want to play MP3s on it do not use the 2012 disc as it will install a new firmware that will kill MP3 functionality. More details in this thread.

Thank you Waves for the heads up! I haven't loaded it yet so I will scour the thread that you attached? I only care that my CD player works and possibly a way to use my Itunes library?

The 2013's appear to be on 1 DVD now. Luckily, it still has my home street on it!
