I replaced the cabin filter last fall with one from NAPA before I put it to bed for the winter. It was the correct filter, but seemed a little difficult to insert the new filter... a tight fit. I bought the car used with about 23,000 miles, and I couldn't believe the amount of dirt and crap that was trapped by the old filter. I am glad I changed it.
I got one from advance, and had the same issue. It seemed as though it wanted to bunch up as I slid it in, because it seemed too wide (wide in the distance from passenger side to driver side. As I slid it in, it didn't seem to want to push all the way to the back as it should.
Yea, that's exactly what mine did. I took a wooden ruler and tried to push the back of it all the way to make sure there wasn't an "unfiltered" space between the back of the filter and the filter housing.
I stayed with the AC Delco that came with it from the factory. Might be a little pricey @ $34, but I only change it once a year when I do the CAI filter.....
I replaced mine with a WIX and had the same issue with busted knuckles. I planned to switch to a different one next year and will try the AC Delco after reading this. Great thread.
i used a WIX one in the wifes 05, but she still claims about certain smells
so i just bought an OEM one
the charcoal type will filter out other smells too
so we shall see
I use the GM charcoal version, purchased from a CF vendor for best price.
The slot that the filter fits into, is slightly curved (ski slope), higher at the front than at the rear. Probably so you don't need to remove the battery to change filter. Makes it tougher to install the filter, but using two dowels or rulers helps.
Most filters have an arrow indicating which way the air flow should go, in the C6 you want the arrow pointing down because the air enters at the top and exits at the bottom.
Great fit in my 09 C6 with the Purolator cabin air filter p/n C25623C (C version is carbon-impregnated). Only $12 at Advance Auto 2 years ago.
Same one I use, it was $11 minus a $3 rebate. Fit perfectly, no issues installing it.

This is not the right part number for the Vette, you sure your buying the correct filter? Also Part No. C25623C is not $34, as mentioned, it's more like $12.
Just replaced mine with a Wix 30 minutes ago. It didn't seem to fit until I realized after looking in the slot that there is a guide that directs the filter upward the farther it goes in then it went in just fine. It slides in at an upward angle, so if one isn't careful it will bunch up and could be ruined. Slow and easy
