Having buult racing engines, (and drag racing professionally forever) we have tried so many and always have gone back to ATI. Nothing compares even though many have good luck w/others...ATI is the standard and thats all we will use.
2006 33k miles Harmonic balancer toast this morning, had a very slight wobble before but today the crickets came to life under the hood and wobble was worse.......bummed
If it was me, I would just buy the best and never think about it again. If the stock unit fails because it is junk, then why would you replace junk with junk. Buy the best and do it right the first time. A few $100.00 saved may cost you a lot more in the long run. As always, each to their own.
Thanx to all for the info. I keep my cars a long time , so I think I will pop for the ATI.
Why do I need a new blot? does removing the old one damage it.
Which to purchase from Summit or Jegs?

The bolts are made for one time use only, have to get a new one. You can buy the OEM GM bolt and washer for about $6 or go for the better aftermarket ARP bolt and washer for around $33....if you order from Summit the ATI with no underdrive and the ARP bolt was $484 total delivered. I, like you, went for the best....
I am going through this problem now. I'm going to have to try the OEM replacement from my dealer though and although I am concerned I just need to go the cheaper route right now. My 07 is out of the 5 year warranty period with 21K miles. My service guy checked for GM assistance for me and the installed price with new belts, bolt, and tax is $538. He said that it is a 7-8 hour job----at $125/hour plus parts and tax. That would probably put me over $1400. Its great GM stepped up but it had to be an OEM balancer. I guess I'm rolling the dice and maybe I'll pay for it later---maybe not. I'm going to Key West for a couple weeks next month and have booked a 4 day offshore fishing trip so the funds are tapped right now. I called the dealer today, the parts are in stock, and I will be rolling again in 2 days ready for the 60 degree weather forecast later this week.
Went to the dealer & they will not replace a 3rd one for free. My buddy will order the ati & install it for a lower charge, Thanx for all the info.
By the way --- my 78 trans am still has the original hb on it after 36 years !!! New & improved by G M is not always better !
The Summit C2501 is what A&A told me to use for stock size SFI balancer. Works on LS1/2/3/6 wet sump cars. They said they have guys in the 9's with that balancer.
just checked mine today...06 22K miles, 7 track days...wobble wobble wobble. Funny, it started to chirp today also, honestly never heard that before today. Amazing how everyone's HB seems to be bad after reading these recent threads!
I thought my Harmonic Balancer had a problem, it was squeaking, then it would'nt squeak, then it would. I put on a new OEM belt and there was this sound like a nut bouncing around in a spinning cylinder. The new belt was putting TOO MUCH PRESSURE on the crank shaft pulley. I put the old belt back on and ... QUIET! Some belts are better that others, but if you have too much pressure on the main pulley you get the squeaking or knocking sound.
