Hello C6'ers,
I sold my "03 vert a year and a half ago. Thought I was done with Corvettes so I haven't stayed informed (other than all the wisom I get in OT) Now I'm thinkin' a C6 vert would be nice. Price is of course a concern... mileage not so much.
Other than "the newer, the better", are there any particular years to avoid? 400 hp is all I need and I'm not adamant about auto vs stick.
You'll know I'm old when I ask this, but are the coupes significantly quieter than the verts? That might be a game changer for me.
Looking forward to your comments.
You can buy an 05 through brand new and have problems. Find the one you want at a good deal and don't look back.
I am in total agreement with that statement.
Pick a number which you are comfortable with and pull the trigger...
Just remember to leave a couple grand in reserve to fix any problems which may arise.
I am a recent buyer which made me a first time Vette mechanic.
But the car is pretty easy to wrench on.
I replaced my harmonic balancer within the first month...
If I could do that then there is some hope for others.
I have never driven a C6 vert, so I cannot answer your question regarding the noise level differences between a convertible and a coupe.
I have owned an '09 and my current '10 GS. Both have been great cars with absolutely no problems.
I would just say just find the Vette you are looking for as far as style, color combinations, amenities, mileage, and cost and buy it. It doesn't sound like you are overly concerned about any of those items, so you should find you one you will enjoy.
When it comes to vetts, they say that either you own one, just sold one or looking for your next one. Last year I sold my 94 ZR-1 for my 2012 GS coupe and never looked back.. the C-6 is a great car...

No, the convertibles are significantly quieter than the coupes. The coupes, however, offer twice the interior luggage storage, and increased roll-over and theft protection. If you want quiet get a C6 with the optional F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control, and stay away from the optional Z51 suspension, or any "wide bodied" models.
Incremental improvements were made each year so you need to decide what is important to you. It's really a matter of preference and budget. Condition of the used Vette is most important, you don't want one that was beat on.
Personally, I like the looks of the coupe and the extra space it provides in the storage area.
My roof pops and makes annoying noises constantly. I even tried the o-ring trick. Still pops. I believe it's mainly due to the dusty conditions in Arizona. Still though, I originally went to buy a used 08 convertible and ended up with a leftover 2011 coupe. The wind noise is worse in a coupe with the top off. They sell some little gizmo that keeps the hatch popped up a little that's supposed to help, but it looks goofy.
I have a 2012 GS convertible .The car is pretty quiet with a few creeks from the door panels but have read here if you want NPP and open a lot or all the time the convertible has much less drone from the muffler.I have the fuse pulled so is open all the time and love the sound.
I have never driven a C6 coupe but I do own and love an 08 vert. I also loved my 04 vert, but this car with the 6sp and Ls3 is so much more car in all respects. Funny the noise issue should come up today because just yesterday I went to breakfast with a group from our Corvette club and was talking at length to a friend with a beautiful supercharged C6 coupe. He told me that the smoked black top is unbearably hot in the warm weather months and extremely noisy as it is so thin, just a layer of composite and no insulation at all. He also said that coupes are always noisier than verts due to the open hatch area, but a painted top is a must in warm weather. I love the looks of a coupe but my wife and I both love the ability to put the top down with the flick of a switch. Personal preference like anything else. Good luck with your decision. BTW very nice triumph.....
Moved up from a '01 Coupe to a '13 GS Coupe. The '13 is much quieter and overall a much better car than the '01 which I loved. Get the the newest your budget can afford. Good luck whatever you decide.
