I think that for the 2011 update GM went from two discs, one east, one west on single layer DVD's to one disc for the entire country on a double layer DVD. Apparently even the 2005 Nav can read a double layer DVD.

Both the 1 disc sets and 2 disc map sets have always been on double layer DVD discs since the 2005 and the latest disc release has now gone back to two double layer discs again. I have always made back up copies that GM specifically allows you to make in the EULA and it always must be done using DL discs for it to work. The backup copies work exactly the same as the original ones do.

2011 version 7.0 was two DL DVD's
2012 version 8.0 was one DL DVD
2013 version 9.0 has two DL DVD's

The 2012 set was on one but had caused some read errors so I think that is why they went back to two discs again like in 2011 release.

The latest 2013 release that came out in November last year is GM - North America Map Update - v.2013 SKU# 22944166

It is compatible with all the following vehicles:

2008-2011 Cadillac STS
2005-2013 Chevrolet Corvette
2005-2009 Pontiac Grand Prix
2007-2009 Saab 9-5

Under in the box the web site states
"(2) Map DVDs
User Guide"

ok...thanks for the info! Interesting about the differences between 2011-103 discs.

The rest of the story:

First..I grew up in Tucson...my step dad built 90% of Tucson in the 50's and was 1/2 of the two developer/contractors who bought and developed the 4000 acres that became Hacienda del Sol Estate.

In the 50's, we had 2 papers in Tucson..The Arizona Daily Star, the morning paper, and the Tucson Citizen. The Star always had a contest to see who could come closest to pick the time and date when the temp hit first hit 100 degrees. The Tucson Citizen would then announce, in the evening, that the 'Ice had finally broken up on the Santa Cruz River. Meaning, the temp had officially hit 100 degrees!(The Santa Cruz is one of 2, generally dry rivers, in Tucson, the Rillito is the other.)

And now everyone has a bit of trivia about Tucson, Arizona!

Who was your stepfather?

I'm a retired Tucson developer and I partnered for a few projects with Mel Ritter who owned PAT Homes and RA Homes and Mel built many thousands of homes here starting in the early 60's.

My step dad was Jim Wildman, and the company was Lusk Construction.

I got to spend summers working in the prefab roof truss shed...not old enough to use the saws but did a lit of 'form layouts and every now and again, got to swing a hammer on the truss gussets! Great fun when it was 105 out! LOL.

You ever meet a Win Mutterer? or Jim Phersdorf (sp??) couple of my step dad's 'cronies' They would go pig (Javelina) hunting every year and do a deep pit BBQ...Great eats..

ok, 'nuff OT here...don't want the mods to yell at me! LOL.

FYI, I recently recieved the latest version 9.0 disc last week and there are no longer (2) seperate discs, there is one for the US and Canada.

Since I have now have a pair of them I am sell a BNIB OEM disc, got one for free through the GM included update program and bought the other. Unfortunatly they will not return either!
