That looks good. Is the weight of the monitor causing the visor to pop down. I like it.
No it doesn't. I just had the visor down for the pic. The monitor is not any heavier than the vanity mirror internals (mirror etc) which I removed to fit the monitor. I left the wiring for the vanity connected in there so the door opener (homelink) still worked.
If you want any more info PM me. I have full instructions on the installation with pics in a PDF file.
Thanks for the PM. I actually went on to that website and was browsing before I saw your message. I think I'm going to go with a different unit, the biggest problem I'm having right now is thinking of a place or a way to install and hide a larger monitor. When I get it done, I'll post pics.
Why not replacethe radio with one which supports video input.
I have a Kenwood DDX419.
I am on the fence about buying the camera for it.
I found both the monitor and cameras (many options) on Amazon.. I really like the sun visor option for mounting as well... I know you posted a thread, but can you post up a link the PDF again... thanks!

you said the camera is activated via the reverse lights coming on...i wonder if you could also wire a switch to the camera to power it on when driving down the road? any electircal gurus out there?

When I had my Pioneer Z130 installed I also wanted a rear camera. Had to do some compromising and ended up with an Alpine rear camera integrated into a rear license plate holder. The rear hatch opening button is barely accessible but it works. The compromise is that the emergency keyhole is blocked by the license plate holder. It has Philip's head screws so I carry a small Phillips head wrench in my wallet. Not ideal, but haven't had to use that key in 2 years. eddie

If you are familiar with diodes, you can do following.
a) Connect negative "ground" wire from reverse camera to ground of car
b) Purchase two 1N4001 diodes (Radio Shack)
c) Connect both diodes' cathodes together and connect that to the positive (+12v) connection of your reverse camera.
d) Connect the anode on diode #1 to the positive side of your reverse lights.(back-up lights)
e) Connect the anode of diode #2 to a switch in car which is powered by 12v. I would use the power from your windsheild wiper fuse becasue its only powered while car is running. This will prevent you from leaving camera on while car is off (battey drain).
Wired your monitor in parallel with the camera. THis way the camera will power up with the monitor.
The reason for the diodes are to isolate the switch 12v from from reverse lights. Without the diodes the reverse light will turn on each time you flip the switch on.
Here are pictures of my recent backup camera installation. Good friend of mine did all the legwork finding equipment and working bugs out with his install. Made mine really easy! Camera and monitor are from the big online auction site. Camera is set up for license plate mount, but this blocked access to emergency hatch key use. He modified the included mount, but I fabricated a new one which is slightly smaller and allows for camera angle adjustment. Monitor is 2 1/2 " color screen and mounted with 3M tape. The set up was wireless as received, but we hard-wired as picture quality was better. Good set-up for way under $100. Neither have had issues with camera location.
no way looks awful. Why not switch out your stereo to a real head unit where backup camera can integrate nicely. That mounted lcd looks gawky
