Default Base C6 vs GTO?

I know theres only one way to find out the ultimate outcome to a race, but just wanted to get some input. A guy at work has a '04 GTO. LS1, auto and has been dynoed at 370 to the rwhp. Has cam, exhaust, gears and a tune. Anyways this guy says he beat a C6 Zo6 at the track which doesn't add up since I hear most manual C6s with LS3 put down 360-380 rwhp. A friend in a trailblazer SS only lost to him by one car length(not sure on his mods if any though). Anyways should my C6(stock '11 manual) have anything to worry about or could it be close depending on the drivers of course? What would be the best way to go?-Im guessing from a roll since hes auto and probably geared for the drag strip?

First off, he says he beat a car but didnt say his time. To me that says he is blowing smoke.

The GTO is a cool car, a little heavy but can still be peppy with gears and some extra power. Many guys I know would show tail lights to most C6 ZO6 drivers at the track too. Not because they have a faster/better car but because they can drive.

A Trailblazer SS wont touch a GTO with that much power unless he has some mods and/or the GTO blows the launch.

Automatic GTO's, more espeically the 2004 suffer from torque management something horrible, if he has that tuned out he will be even better. They also come with 3.46 gearing and with the first gear of the 4L60E having a 3.06 ratio they can come out of the hole quite well.

What tires is he running?

His mods SHOULD put in in the 12s pretty easilty. If he is making that kind of power with a converter his car should come out of the hole pretty well, and if he is making that power just know his engine is stronger than it shows because the high stalls suck some extra juice.

Be on your game and dont miss a shift or blow off the tires or you will look at GTO tail lights all the way down the strip. You should out MPH him though.

Go to the track and have some fun. If he has said what he beat but no times I wouldnt be too worried.

My 06 GTO with 380 whp was pretty darn fast, ran neck and neck with some C5 Z06s at the track. It very well could be a drivers race, all this is assuming you are going to a track

My 05 GTO put down 450rwhp/419rwtq... on the drag strip it wouldn't have been close but from a roll I think my C6 would put up a damn good fight and pulled back at the top end.

Not in this life would he ever beat a C6 Z06 with a close to 4000 lb car with only 370 to the wheels. He'd need at least 100 more then that to even keep up.Now a C5 Z06 maybe it would be close.

I had a 04 LS1 GTO with 376 RWHP and while I never went to the track with it, I have no doubt any LS3 Corvette would beat it handily.

the GTO weighed 3700 +

I have seen a 2004 GTO run 13.1 and I have seen a C6 ZO6 run a 13.5 because he couldnt drive.

Not saying the GTO is a faster car but that day he turned a faster time. The GTO driver beat the Corvette driver, I understand that. How many people on here can actually drive a ZO6 to sub 12 second times? If someone take the time to work on their car and do mods and have it tuned generally they are more in to actually driving and know their car better. Just my observation.

I watch lightly modded LS1 F-bodies run low 12s without even a cam swap. Just suspension, tires, gears and a converter for the auto's.

With the human error factor anything is possible.

My GTO ran 12.81@107 with "cold air" intake and headers. 11.88@119.5 with a 100 shot on top of that.

Then I did LS3 heads/intake, custom cam and a 3200 stall and went 11.55@118 all motor. Had a 150 shot backed by a NANO kit ready to go but bitched out using it on the track (was 350 miles from home and drove to the race)

Lot of BAD drivers own Z06's, I have seen plenty of C6Z's run mid 13's at the track because of the driver. Prefer to take things off track to settle grudges.

That was my thinking-either it wasn't a Zo6 or the guy didn't know how to drive. Im in Colorado Springs where the elevation is about 6200 and a friend said he ran in the 14s at the track. Id like to run him on a roadcourse as Im sure his auto GTO wouldn't have a chance. Ill check on his tires today and what gears he has since he said he has gears and a stall.

It is going to be a drivers race in my opinion. You will need to launch without much spin, and shift at the max RPM's with little loss of RPM's during your shifts. Of course you need to get out of the gate first.

not a chance

coming from a highly modded 06 GTO I know those cars well. The 04 is just not enough to keep up with an LS3 Vette. even if he has 370 Hp that car is a 12.90 car in AZ and the LS3 Vette is a 12.40 car stock.

I had 426 WHP in my GTO and would only pull an LS3 Vette by a few cars in the quarter.

If you have a post missing from this thread, it's probably because you forgot this:

Personal attacks/hostility toward others

The Forum should be a place where we treat one another with civility so that it remains a fun and friendly place to hang around with other Corvette enthusiasts. Hostility to others is rude and inappropriate.

Personal attacks cannot be tolerated. Attack ideas, not fellow Forum members.
