Default Hail Damage

Just moved to Atlanta and got a big welcome. Got home and a big hail storm caught the vette outside. Got about 10 to 15 very small pits on the driver side, hood and trunk. About the size of a safety pin head. Wondering if I should just use my up touch paint with a tooth pick and take care of it pits myself or get my insurance to fix it. Have anyone been through this with their insurance company before. I have a $500 deductible.

I have been through a claim with my insurance company due to damage caused by a hail storm. But my Vette was totaled.

I would have your insurance company and a body shop look at the Vette very carefully to make sure all of the damage is known and addressed. For $500 I would probably turn it in as a claim if the damage was severe enough.

FYI, my Vette had countless very small hair line cracks in the body work, due to the hail. But then again it was caused by baseball size hail.

Good luck.

Welcome to Atlanta, and sorry for your Vette. At least it was just the car, right? Good luck.....

man, i feel you.
My C5 was caught in a hail storm.. punched a hole through one of the doors, shattered the front and rear window. It was baseball sized hail. The body shop did a terrible job fixing it. I didn't like the car after that. Ended up trading it in.

My 2010 Toyota RAV 4 got hit with golf ball size hail about two years ago. There were dents everwhere. Looked like the car got shot up. I thought for sure the ins company would total it. It had 15k in damage, the ins co decided to fix it.

My wife was in Alpharetta for a meeting on Monday and on her way to the Airport, she was caught up in that baseball size hail storm. The flight was also cancelled, so she and her CEO and CFO had to drive back to Orlando monday night or sit and wait for 36 hours . Atlanta sure does get alot of nasty storms, I'm just waiting for the day she gets transferred up there, Its gonna be a big adjustment for us.

The wife and I were at an outdoor party in Central, SC. The storm clouds started gathering, and my wife (who is scared to death of lightning) kept nagging me to leave. I finally relented and drove here home (I was having a good time after all). Less than 10 seconds after parking the car safely in my garage, the quarter sized hail storm came crashing down all around us...

So, my wife's "nagging" saved the paint job on my new car...

I told her from that day foward, she is free to nag me whenever she wants...

I'd recommend the OP get his insurance company into the picture.

My wife and I had both our cars parked at O'Hare while we were out of town in 2000, hers was in the public lot and mine was in the crew lot about a mile away. Hailstorm came through.

Her 1998 Camry was undamaged.
My 1998 Camaro had a couple of small dents in the hood.

State Farm had a special claims unit in our town because of all the hail damage to homes and cars; they inspected the Camaro and found many many small dents all over it. They wrote me a big check on the spot, when I asked what would happen if the repairs cost more, they said just bring in the bills. I was impressed.

Traded the Camaro for our 2001 Corvette a few weeks later, without repairing it. But i did point out the damage to the salesman.

EDIT:
In our home town about 20 miles away, many tin cars had hail damage but the Corvettes that were outside just needed a mild buffing to remove the scuffs from hail, 3 years later there was no additional damage visible.

Definitely go through your insurance co. That way you don't end up with touch ups you did that might make you unhappy and also you need to have it checked out for additional damage. Good luck
