Default Window index chipped window

Anyone experience this? When my passenger door indexes it slam it extremely hard into the top of the door and has caused the top of the passenger window to chip and become sharp.

Have you tried to re-index the window to see it it lessens the contact?

Elmer,

question. will OP have to disconnect battery first? i suspect yes

second question, if the power windows fuse is pulled, will that reset to 'no index' like pulling battery cable? (if you know)

Actually you just roll the window down, roll it up and index it. No need to power it down. Kinda re-trains it. Similar to pressing the "1" button to remember a new seat adjustment.

He is not asking about how to re-index it. He is saying the window keeps getting scratched every time the window is pushed up by indexing. Perhaps the window itself is not correctly aligned? I have never seen this issue, and if the car is still under warranty, you should get it checked out by the dealer.

I understood his problem. I'm suggesting that the original index might have been done with the door open and it "set" itself too high???? By re-indexing, it might lower the height and stop it from slamming into the frame.

It appears that this is my issue..I inspected the top of the guide where the window would be meeting and htere is a screw that appears to be sitting about 1/4in out. I have tried tightening by hand, but was unable to...I also tried removing it, but was unable to get the damn thing to turn and was to afraid of stripping it.

I experienced the same issue with my 05. Eventually my window would only go up half-way. My passenger side Window Regulator had to be replaced.

I honestly didn't know what was the cause of my chipped window until I saw this post. I was able to tighten the screw by hand, but only so much.

FYI...the dealership actually replaced the OEM screws with new GM OEM screwsl. The new screws have a slightly different head shape and resolved the chipping issue.
Sorry it's after the fact...

I have seen this also. On the drivers side, only noticed it after the top was replaced during the recall. I thought maybe the screw was not installed all the way but when I tried to tighten it no movement. So I put a piece of foam 3M tape over the screw. Seemed to help a little. My window also has a nick where the screw made contact.

My 06 had the same problem. There was a screw that looked like it wasn't screwed all the way in but it wouldn't budge when I tried to tighten it. I just replaced it with a shorter screw. Problem solved.
