new brake project
I replaced the Z51 brake system ( it was an upgrade from the factory on a base C6) with Baer rotors, stock powder coated calipers and brackets. the pads were ceramic by Hawk. The brake fluid is now Motul 3364HL Dot 5.1 100 Percent Synthetic Non-Silicone Base brake fluid. This brake fluid does not require annual flushing as some racing brakes fluids do. It still holds up to 365 degrees F which is plenty for my use.
Southern Car Parts and TPS Motorsports were both very helpful and responsive. The finish on the power coated parts is excellent. The brake pedal is firmer and with hard braking there is NO fading.
This is far less money than replacing the calipers with some of those well know caliper systems. I know this is still a stock piston setup but for my use this will work just fine. I would love to have 3 piston calipers up front and two piston in the back but not for the additional cost. This was an easy install and worked with existing rims. Just thought I would share for those who want the look and increased braking without spending $4,000 on a braking system.

Clean the undercarriage with EagleOne Bare Aluminum Wheel Cleaner
http://www.eagleone.com/aluminum-wheel-cleaner
Then
Clean the hub and spray it with Gunk's Squeal Medic
http://www.gunk.com/products/cat_det.asp
Then with the remaining Squeal Medic, crawl under the vette and spray the exposed bolt heads and threads to protect them from rusting and pitting.
I know, it says it's for brake pads to prevent noise but I have found that it works great as a protectant and can be cleaned off and reapplied.

You really need to do something with that rust. The rest looks great.

1 x Corvette Brake Pads C5-C6 Hawk Ceramic (HB247Z575)
Front Rotors Z51 C6 Corvette - EradiSpeed Stock Size 13.35"- (2301052)
Rear Rotors Z51 C6 Corvette - EradiSpeed2 14inch Upgrade - (2302049)
my car is a base C6 that came from the factory with the Z51 rotor option. The pads are base C6. To do this you need to use base C6 rotors on the back because Baer will provide a heavy bracket to use for the needed off-set because the rear rotors are a slightly larger diameter. the folks at TPS Motor Sports worked with me so I had what I needed when I got the work done.
there is ZERO squeal and brake dust is minimumal plus stopping power is greatly improved. for my use this will be just fine.
as for cost we all know there are plenty of great looking brake systems out there that have fantastic stopping power. Some of these optional systems with 3 pistons were not able to be used with my rims so I stayed with stock size. I also use an 18 inch rim on the back during the summer for my DR's.
i was able to get everything done for about $1,700 which included rebuilt calipers that were powder coated by TPS Motor Sports
